When I was going to college I would have one two or three jobs at once to try and make ends meet. My weekend day job was at a Burger King, (I went to another job in the evenings).
Now I have heard a lot of stories about McDonalds and Burger king employees doing disgusting things to the food like spitting in the fry oil etc. But I have to admit that during my four years of working there I did not ever observe any of this kind of activity going on.
Basically the main difference between Burger King and McDonalds is the way that the majority of the food is cooked. At McDonalds Burgers are cooked on a grill, and at Burger King the Burgers and the lighter chicken for the light chicken sandwhich are cooked on a broiler. The broiler looks sort of like a BBQ Grill but it actually a large machine with a conveyor belt inside that carries the burgers across the grill and when they fall out at the end they are cooked. This way of cooking is suppossed to be slightly healthier than cooking on a griddle type grill, because the greese drips off and falls down into the broiler instead of being the burgers being cooked in it.
The way that the frys are cooked are the same at both restaurants, the only difference is they use different types of oils. One uses a more fatty animal type oil and the other uses vegetable oil. I cant remember which is which though. But neither one of them use the really good oils such as olive oil. They also have kids meals.
Burger King has a pretty standard Menu but the most popular item on the Menu is the Whopper. The Whopper is a quarter of a pound of beef, on the beef ketch-up, mustard and onion. On the top of the large bun you will find mayonaise, Two slices of tomatoe, and lettuce. You can get a smaller version of this and it is called a Whopper Jr. The also of course have regular hamburger, and cheeseburgers, and bacon burgers and cheese burgers. They also have fish sandwhich, a broiler chicken sandwhich, and a fried chicken sandwhich, Burger King is also more than happy to make a vegetarian Whopper for anyone who requests it. Some Burger Kinds may even make you a ham and cheese sandwhich if you ask for it. Some wont though, but it does not hurt to ask. They have the ham on hand for the breakfast items, which I will get into in a moment.
Burger King also has salads, which I used to make, they seem to be a bit larger than the ones you get at McDonalds, and they are suppossed to be made fresh every morning, which they were at my restaurant. They will keep them up to 24 hours though, but there are always suppossed to be some made fresh in the morning. So if you get a salad and it is looking a little brown, just let them know and they should have fresher ones prepared.
Breakfast is my favorite thing at Burger Kind because I just love the croisant sandwhiches. They come with egg and cheese and you can get one of three kinds of meat on them, bacon, sausage or ham. You can of course skip any of the ingredients and have them made just the way you want them. And they are yummy even plain. They also have bagel sandwhiches made the exact same way. You can get hashbrowns to go along with anything. You can also get french toast sticks, pasties, and scrambled egg platters.
Burger Kings main objective is to serve fresh food and for the most part they do. At lunch time they will make some up ahead a time in the hopes that those will sell quickly but will give them more time to make fresh ones. This almost always is the case so for the most part your sandwhiches are never that old. If you do happen to walk in later in the day when it is slow and you see sandwhiches sitting waiting to be served they may be a bit older. They are supposed to marked and thrown out after a certain amount of time. Same thing with the fries, they are also suppossed to be thrown out if they have sat for a certain amount of time.
Most of the time they do not sit, and you can pretty much always get them fresh. But I will be honest and say that they did not always get thrown out when they were suppossed to. How much all of these things are done is pretty much based on how good the management and ownwership of each franchise are and weahter or not they follow the franchise rules. They franchise rules are very clear and if they are followed you can be sure that your food will be fresh and safe.
The dining room and washrooms are suppossed to be cleaned several times throughout the day. And during lunch and dinner hour there is usually someone assigned to stay out there the entire time to make sure that there is always a clean table for customers to sit at.
Again individual restaurants are as good as their management.
