64bit! machines are finally all commercial, rather than still being in the RnD closet. Here are a few things I would like to point out incase u opting in for a 64bit machine.
Firstly, youll have to go in for AMD as Mental Inside is still not able to come out with a 64bit processor commercially, (what a pity! & they call themselves pioneers!).
There is an OLD MYTH, that AMD processors require a huge amount of cooling and they consume huge amount of power. All that is NONSENSE. AMD processors are gooood, rather, better than the 32bit counterparts, they can handle more data processing,
Incase u opting for a AMD64 some DOs and DONTs DONT(many a times overlooked, hence speaking first)
POINT I
/=====================================================
Dont use Widowz(u reading it right!), it sucks, they cant run a 32 bit system past 9 years properly, what will they run a 64bit system. Windows XP crashes on starting the notepad or games like minesweeper etc. with only the display and sound drivers installed. XP 32 on a 64 bit system? No comments!
Do use Fedora Core 2 64 bit, it ROCKS!(I bet Bill Gates is shitting in his undies after seeing it!) Longhorn is boooooooooooo. The FC2 system is very very stable, it picks up all the drivers and has got a very very crip look and feel. All the applications right from openoffice to Evolution have gone major metamorphosis.
=====================================================/
POINT II
/=====================================================
Dont use an MSI motherboard for the AMD system, they have a problem with the onboard display, at the sametime, the motherboard BIOS has some silly issue of being an old version!.
Do use ASEUS motherboard, it might be a bit on the higher end in terms of cost, but is much more stable, has less drivers and BIOS issue. =====================================================/
POINT III
/===================================================== -
Dont get RAM below 1GB
Do get ATLEAST 1 to 1.%GB of RAM
=====================================================/
KT800M chipset
AMD64
80GB HDD
17 monitor
1 GB RAM
Optical mouse
Keyboard
Floppy Drive(who uses it anyway!)
DVD-ROM, CD Writer COMBO Drive
The whole thing accounts for 37 - 40K depending on ur city,
Incase u a gamer, u not looking at anything for the next 1.5 to 2 years, then add a nvidia card and forget for another 2 years
Incase of developer, for the next 3-4 years
Incase of Office users 6-8 years
Incase of Home users 10 -12 years!
Incase of Marketing Managers(MBAs) NEVER! cos u people as DUMB as WIDOWS to use only MS Office(Powerpoint), and that aint available on 64 bit, so crib & cry and make another presentation, on to use or not to use.
I think its worth the money, only if u are looking for a long term market and not a simpleShut your son/employee system
