Before buying a new gadget we often have few doubts in our minds.
And when it comes to buying a notebook~ doubts increase lil more than buying
an ordinary gadget. Let me try to clear few doubts regarding often discussed
issue called LAPTOP/NOTEBOOK.
What to look for in a notebook? is it just the
configuration? or brand? or style? or price?or everything that I just
listed? I guess it’ll be a blend of everything. In first place why do we
prefer a laptop when we can get the same configuration at almost less than half
the price? its the portability, comfort and last but surely not the least its
the status which makes you buy a laptop instead of a desktop
>>>>Well before buying your new notebook do consider following
factors
1.Configuration ~ RAM, processor, screen, hard-disk,
additional features like, wifi, DVD- writer, blue tooth are few features
which cannot be ignored. If your work does not involve usage of very high
software or you mostly need to access MS office and few other softwares you can always go for mild configuration like
RAM – 512mb DDR2 or max to max 1gb
Hard drive – 80gb or 120 gb
Processor – AMD or INTEL
celiron or CORE 2 DUO
Screen – 14-15’’
Well additional features are always addons~ more the list
the better it is. And in case your work runs on heavy softwares send me an M2M may be I can guide you for
higher configuration:P
2.Brand ~ we Indians are obsessed about brands . and
this rule is applicable universally lol. Buying a brandless notebook is risky in
first place so always prefer a branded notebook. You can choose between ~ HP(quality), compaq(one of the most trusted)
, sony(stylist), acer(very economical),
Toshiba etc. Warning - Dont be
carried away by the flashy adds that catch your attention every now and then.
SRK and Hrithik rashon wont be helping you if your notebook falls ill
3. Price~ always
have a set of budget before buying a notbook. Like 25-40k(indian currency)for
mild configuration or 60-80k for high config. It depends majorly on your
purpose of buying the notebook. Always buy notbook from a recognized vendor. If your work involves very high load on system
then go for a desktop insdead. A general
opinion says desktops are faster than laptops even if they’re of same config.
Well after using a notebook of 8 months~ i’ll hold the same opinion.
4. Extraaaaaaaaaas ~
being greedy is not always bad;)
our attention is always drawn towards additional features that a
notebook offers. Lets say a pure lather bag or few additional features like
webcam or wifi or bluetooth, good qaulity of speaker. God i’ve not seen even a
single notebook~ offering good sound quality speakers. Infact my own
notebook’s sound qaulity is much infirior
when I compare it with my cellphone’s sound quality . Warning~ dont buy a notebook by
getting influnced by free gifts that the company is offering like a 4gb
pendrive or free trip or additioanl speakers, plug 2surf etc. This can be disastrous!
5. Screen ~ well this can be a major issue
for some people and can be irrelevant for others. Most appealing screen size for
most of the people is 14-15’’ . but some people always prefer king size;) And may
opt for 17’’ or 19’’ . here’s a drawback if you go for big size notebook.
Bigger the screen size ~ heavier your notebook will be. I’m sure for
gals its not feasible to carry 5kg on the shoulder all the time along with
other hand bags. Even for man 5-6 kgs will be heavy in long run. If your work
invovles lot of roaming, go for small size, and there’s an additioanl goodie
attached with this~ its safe and easy to maitain a small notebook!
6. Pre-loaded~
most of the notebooks comes with preloaded OS(Operating System). Window Vista was a charm at my time
and many people bought a particular notebook with that OS. Well people i’ll not
favour this reason. Incase that OS fails to be compatible with your work load
then? ya you can always formate your
system after that but being influnced by OS is surely like behaving out of
wits.
After buying the
notebook you cant be reckless, you need to be lil cautious so that you can
enjoy you notenook for a longer time .here’re few tips!
*>>>>>Few does and dont for
taking care of your notebook<<<<<*
1.Always keep it on hard surface like a table, or wooden
pad etc. Notebook gets hotter if its kept on bed or uneven surface . I know we
call it as LAPTOP but its not good for
the health of your laptop if you always keep it on your laps .
- Always try to
run it with its adaptor . statistics shows that if lapttop goes less
than 5% battery very often. It wont last long .
- Is Getting it laminated a good idea? in my opinion its
not~ your laptop can get hotter quite frequently or if moisture gets stuck by
chance then also its dangerous . so how can one protect it? simple clean it
very soft cloth in downward direction once in 2-3 days or daily if
possible. Do leave your opinion if
getting laptop laminated worked for you
.
- As on date laptops are not unbreakable sadly . so you
need to be extra cautious so that it never falls on floor. Hopefully we
progress in an era where we can get laptops that are unbreakable even if you
throw them from 5th floor
- Hibrenate Vs shutting down? I always hibernate my
system when i’m in hurry. Set a short cut for hibernating do not shut the lid
directly, this is beacuse your laptop has to perform many actives when you
hibernate your system. And it requirs
some 1gb of free disk space to hibernate .So the safest way is to set a short
cut and then close the lid gracefully
6.If you’re not running it on power then run your system
on power saving mode and reduce the brightness as par comfort, check out for
the ways so that you can save your battery .
7.If your work invovles lots of typing~ BUY an
additional USB keyboad, it’ll save the life of your system. As the weight of
your hands can be too much if its prolonged
8.Never temper with the seal that company places at the
bottom~ your warrenty can be void incase you do that and you’ll have to spend lot of moeny to get
it in sound position incase of system breakdown.
- Keep away from moisture, direct sun light, magnetic feilds, heavy shocks and
vibration. water, chidren lolss
10.Always
shut the lid slowly and keep it in the bag/case after use.
Hope I gave some useful tips to my readers on how to
maintain your laptop before and after buying it!
