It depends for what purpose you want it!

Well I cannot give you a list of scanners which may help, but I can tell you what to look for in your scanner.

Your scanner should be portable and less space consuming, but at the same time should be able to scan large documents.

Your scanner should have a good optical resolution for scanning. I would recommend anything above 600x600 for home users. However for professional users 1200x600 is a bare minimum.

You should check your scanner’s warranty from your dealer and also see if he can do servicing of your scanner(as the glass on which the scanning is done should be clean)

You should check if the scanner is compatible with your system or no too(some scanners may not work on windows 2000)

You should also check if the scanner software offers OCR(Optical Character Recognition)which is useful for scanning documents and transfering them to word.

These points should help you in deciding which scanner is the best for you. You should also keep an eye on the price of a the scanner you buy. A home scanner may come for around 10, 000/-Rs but a professional one may come for about 20, 000/-Rs+.

If you need more help on list of dealers or the best scanners in the market you can check out the Digit June 2001 issue.

Hope this helps.;)Chow
