Simple Truths about Oils

Usage of Oil and for that matter the correct oil has become a major issue in our present day life.Every housewife has to deal with all the marketing blitz of the lowest saturated fat advts from the various manufacturers and the various health warnings from doctors and health magazines articles. So what should be a good oil to be used and what quantity?. As you know very well the Scientists and the doctors keep changing their minds about what is good for the human body and what is not. So what is the safe way?. If we look at trends in our change of lifestyle it can be easily observed that compared to our ancestors we are getting better quantity and richer foods.

Every household(in case of non vegetarians) have a chicken or some non veg curry every week some even on everyalternate day. Sweets are also eaten more frequently. In olden times there was so much food shortage and widespread poverty that people had to go hungry and do with the bare minimum food. Next point is about physical exercise. We in general are having lesss of physical exercise and do more of sedentary kind of jobs. Most of us sit in an office all day come back home and still rest . There is hardly any physical exertion. So coming back to our main issue about use of oil.

(1) It has to be acknowledged that one thing that the doctors uniformly agree is that in our present lifestyle less oil in our diet is preferable. And even if we have to have any oil try to have more of unsaturated oils(all vegetable oil.not dalda!) Ghee is obviously out.Use an oil spray and of course a non stick pan to reduce oil.

(2)Every vegetable oil is different. Each has its own set of nutrients and minerals. So as a smart person which oil do you stick to?. the answer is none. Keep on changing your oil every month or so. Have groundnut oil for a month. Next month switch to kardi oil the next month use Mustard oil and the next sunflower oil. This way you get the advantage and nutrrients from all different oil.

(3)Try to have all food in the natural form nothing beats it in quality. So filtered oils are good. Double filtered oils lack the aroma and may be a few nutrients . Take double filteres oils if you are troubled by the smell of a particular oil. It is also a bit difficult to get really good, unadultrated fresh unfiltered oil.All the major good brands give the double filitered oils for the sensitive nose.

(4) And last and not the least do some exercise!. Our body is a machine. It hs to be run and tuned regularly. Just as your car will be useless if you dont use it for a long time.Your body also needs to be exercised regularly. Have a good healthy life otherwise whats the whole point of living. Good luck!
