Cafe Coffee Day is the pioneer cafe chain in Kolkata. Barista and other independent coffee shops have come up much later. CCD started off the first chain of cafe and in a way changed how the youth of this city hang out.
Located in the quaint little corner of Ritchie Road, opposite Maddox Square, the CCD Ballygunj shop offers a nice cafe experience to the connoisseurs of good food and good coffee.
The decor and ambiance is nice like any standard CCD outlet. It is a quiet corner, but at the same time it is off the busy Lansdown road, so a lot of busy traffic does pass by. The shop is adjacent to a clinic called Pulse Diagnostics and is close to Hazra-Lansdown crossing too.
The shop is very well decorated. Nice wallpapers, depicting fresh bright colors seem soothing to eyes. The color combination mainly plays around white and red to suit CCD’s corporate logo. The photographs of coffee cups and coffee beans are very classy and looks nice. The sofas are pretty comfortable. You have leather sofas and also chairs made of cane wood. The tables are spacious and customized to sit a large family group or a couple.
You can find families and huge friend groups hanging out and having a gala time in the evening. Yes there are lovebird couples too who are engrossed in their own world. LOL! I visited the shop mainly in the morning time when it is quiet and peaceful. The soft morning hues merge seamlessly with the thought provoking aroma of coffee.
Coming to the menu, you have a good range to chose from. You can go for regular or large Capuccino, Mocaccino or Strong Black Espresso. You can also go for Irish Coffee. If you are a tea person, go for Assam Tea, Darjiling Tea or the healthy Green Tea. You can also choose flavored varieties, such as Cardamom Tea, Lemon Tea or Ginger Tea. You can complement your dring with cookies or chips.
If you don’t want a hot cuppa, and are looking for something to cool you down, CCD really has mouthwatering flavors to choose from. You can go for Iced Coffees, such as Iced Eskimo. You can also try out mouth watering Frappes, such as Cafe Frappe or Choco Frappe. You can have add-ons such as chocolate sauce or cream. There are cool fruit juices, slushes, lemonades and iced tea.
For snacks, you can go for sandwiches. Chicken Sandwich and Veg sandwich are always a winner and most commonly available. Nowadays other snacks such as Egg Wrap and Samosa are also gaining popularity.
If you have a sweet tooth, CCD would almost never disappoint you. Go for the Chocolate Fantasy, Nutty Fudge Brownie, Dark Passion or Sizzle Dazzle Brownie, the unique chocolate sizzler! You can also try out ice cream and desert shots.
The price range is bit on the higher side, but it’s worth the ambiance and good time with friends and family. Mostly all shops are air conditioned, though some outlets have outdoor sitting arrangements also. This particular outlet is completely indoor and air conditioned.
