Thank you and I am really grateful to be on this show to share my family recipe on how to brew coffee.
Ok, letz get ready with a piece of paper and a pen or if you think your brain can handle the varied ingredients and the intricate procedure involved without getting mixed up, that is also fine, and I will show you how to make your cuppa and have it too!!!
Who thought brewing or choosing your cup of coffee could be so complicated, right? Think again, with the variety of coffees to choose from, it is no longer a simple affair.
Well, it was a beautiful, breezy Sunday evening, and this was the day before my elder sister was leaving for Delhi. By the way, I have a very cute, handsome (hmm..cute and handsome - contradictory, isn?t it?) hunk for a 3-year-old nephew (who I fall deeper and deeper in love with every time I think of him) and who can be quite brutal and handful sometimes, as most kids of his age are.
Well, we all wanted to go to some place and have a nice, hot steaming cuppa (only the 3 of us, my elder sis ?Prasu, younger one- Pavi, and of course, me, Tej ), so we headed out to Café Coffee Day at Jayanagar 4th block just opposite to R.V. Dental College and close to our very famous 4th block bus stop. (If you still cant find it, look dazed and lost and panic and scream for help or you could just follow my policy -when in doubt, ask. I am sure I have given very clear directions. If you still cannot find it, don?t blame me; they must have shifted).
Let me tell you a little bit on the history of the joint Café Coffee Day (since I am going to use this name often, let me use the abbreviated form CCD for Café Coffee Day for convenience).
It is interesting to know that the high-tech and cool Coffee Day?s history goes back to our famous coffee town Chikmagalur of our very own Karnataka. CCD?s unique feature according to them is that the coffee served in their cafes are actually grown in the 5000 acres of plantations which they own and hence one can expect some fresh, unadulterated experience of drinking kapi.
As soon as you enter the CCD, you get to see all kinds of people? married couples, love-struck youngsters (yes, this breed is more), children, and of course, who can forget our noisy yet full-of-life college students. A piece of advice is that someone with a sensitive tympanic membrane (eardrum) might not appreciate the decibel levels inside the joint. The interior is well-lit and a la mode ( it is a French word.. see I love la langue francaise) and for seating, they have settee and chairs to choose from.
Usually Sundays are the time when most people get out of their usual routine and decide to make our shopping centers, malls, eateries, restaurants, and gadi-walas rich, so after a little waiting, we get seated and begin our menu perusing, which basically is done by me as am the most innovative one in our family.
Both my sisters settle for their most favorite brew, cappuccino, an Italian drink, which consists of espresso coffee mixed with either steamed milk or cream, which is usually light and the milk has a velvety texture and sweet taste and has lots of foam in it, while I usually have Assam Tea, my favorite, which is light and of course, the best of teas is the Masala Chai (for that light, spicy feeling.. hmm.. just heavenly!!!)
Now, coming back to coffees, the difference between café latte and cappuccino is that latte has lots of milk and less froth whereas the latter one has more of froth and less milk. Macchiato is again espresso topped with milk foam.
One can go for espresso if they like their coffee real strong whereas Espresso Americano is a lighter version of it, and we have again Irish Coffee which has espresso swathed in whipped cream with a flavor of our choice.
For chocolate crazy nuts, we have Chococinno (chocolate, ice, and hot coffee) or Café Mocha (hot coffee and chocolate). One can also opt for Caffeine Kick or Black Velvet. We have a variety of coffee add-ons to choose from like honey, flavored syrup, whipped cream, chocolate sauce, etc. These are for the hot coffee drinkers.
As for the prices, they are affordable and definitely not too much on the higher side.
We also have a variety of cold coffee and frappes (frappe is basically milkshake) to choose from (something I haven?t tried yet; next time I visit CCD, I should).
They also have cool drinks, cakes, pastries, and veg and non-veg snacks (like pizza, samosa, puff, sandwich, wraps, etc.) to choose from. Forgot to mention my favorite pastry is ?Chocolate Fantasy, ? an absolute treat to the senses, which I think has delicious chocolate cake with a hard, crispy chocolate cream layer with bits of chocolate pieces. Well, what can be more mouth watering than this!!! So choose your cuppa and have a coffee blast at Café Coffee Day, we definitely did.
