Beware if anything is offered is free! This maxim was always there at the back of my mind - still I decided to access internet through Caltiger. My hunches proved correct. Connection to Caltiger proved costly with each operating instant. Agreed they are offering it for free. But as I see, the only beneficiaries are the advertisers. (Gains by advertisers are also doubtful, as impatient users would definitely bear a grudge against them!) The users are saddled with a lame duck connection that keeps seesawing between activity and sleep with predictable regularity. During the evenings, when internet usage is at a peak, I have found the connection almost impossible. The first hurdle is getting the line itself and once the connection is effected, it takes quite a time for the web page to flash on your screen. It is a situation of penny wise and pound foolish. You save on connection charges, but spend a fortune on telephone bills. Repeated calls with no satisfactory internet access leaves the telephone bills inflated. Result - the savings due to free connection is spent away in useless cackle of the modem.
My personal experience with Caltiger (free connection) has not been very satisfactory though to be fair to the ISP, there are limitations in such free offers.
