MYLES Self Drive in Mumbai

MYLES is a self drive car rental service. It belongs to Carzonrent, the company which owns and runs easycabs.

I booked a maruti Swift diesel for 3 days from their Sakinaka depot in Mumbai. They also have another one in Lower Parel but it stocks premium cars since parking space is less.

The booking happens online. Depending on the time and date you choose, the system calculates the price with taxes. You have to pay in advance in full to book. The billing starts at the time you pick up the vehicle(which is way better than having a fixed time). You can book by the hour or by a day.

The booking was painless and I received a confirmation email and a message. On the designated day went to their pick up depot, which happens to be a godforsaken place in Sakinaka. Its really remote and spooky after dark. the pickup was smooth, though a little time taking with the amount of paperwork and entry into their IT system involved. We were made to sit in an air-conditioned waiting room and served water. Pandeyji was the contact person who was courteous and nice. Do carry all the documents they ask you to else you will get stuck.

They will also block Rs. 30000/- on your credit card. So a credit card is mandatory. They give the vehicle with a tank full of fuel and expect you to return as such. before issuing the vehicle they do a thorough check along with you and point out all dents etc and also click pics. All dents are also marked in a check sheet, a copy of which is given to the customer. The car we picked up was about 12000 kms and about 4 months old.

We drove to Panchgani and had the vehicle for about 3 days. Gave no trouble. The return process was also painless. Though I did not manage any dent etc on the vehicle, I would recommend that if you manage to get any do point it out. Minor scratches are forgiven, major ones will be charged.

Within 2 days of returning, the block of 30000/- was vacated from my card. Overall would recommend MYLES in Mumbai. Since Mumbai is a big city and a premium market where there would be demand, I would recommend them to have more depots to give out cars.

EDIT: 28-Jan-2015

I had another out of town outing planned and booked another car from MYLES. It was a ford Figo Diesel this time. Booked and paid the full amount in advance about a month before the date of travel.

Picking up the car was a hassle free experience. The staff has changed from the last time. This time there was young staff(below 30 yrs), I am assuming to respond to the kind of customers the self-drive segment sees. Since I had booked a car in the past too, they had my records using which they had kept the papers ready. What remained was signing the forms and I could get into the vehicle and drive away.

The drop off was equally smooth. I drove in, they checked the car, issued an acknowledgement and I walked out. The amount they blocked on the card is also freed. They execute a transaction worth Rs. 1/- and the rest of the amount is unblocked. I would recommend MYLES in Mumbai.
