I have never been a hardcore fan or a staunch follower of Bond movies. But you don’t even have to see a single Bond movie to know about 007. James Bond is famous by his own means. Casino Royal brings in Daniel Craig shoot the bullet facing the screen for it to turn red. When the movie gets over our faces turn red too, in anger and disappointment.
It is pointless for me to tell you the plot for the movie, as it is not the matter of what and why; it is the question of how and when. There is this usual advertisement for the car, watches and all the other stuff Bond uses and there is also a small plot along with it. But if you still wish to hear the story from me, let me tell you this, I have been thinking to figure it out even hours after watching this movie!
Should accept that the visuals are terrific, the initial stunts especially. There are punch lines here and there …
Bond: “ Don’t worry you are not my type ..”
Girl: “Smart?”
Bond: “Single”
But all these you get to see in the trailers. All the other scenes except those in promos and trailers are unimpressive! So, if you wish to watch this movie, just watch the trailers!
This bond is different. He is just an amateur, recently promoted to a double ‘o’. He cries, he falls in love with one single girl and is just so serious with lesser sense of humor. Expect a stylish and ever funny bond, and then there is more disappointment. Probably the moviemakers are trying to change the concept a little to suit the looks of the newly inducted bond. Daniel Craig does really well though, at least enough to change the opinion of people who say he doesn’t look the part. But the movie directed by Omega watches and Sony, doesn’t provide him enough scope to settle in right away!
The camera does wonders capturing scenic locations. Equally glamorous Bond girls were expected to be cast, but they are just O.K. The movie starts in some weird location (that’s how I call it if I forget the name!) then shifts to Uganda and then to some place in Germany … there is no direction to the movie except east, west, north and south. Where does Casino fit in? The villain is a gambler and the bond tries to beat him in a game of poker. Obviously, bond loses a couple of rounds and then wins. Unnecessary long romantic sequences let the movie drag and becomes a serious pain in the a*s. Loose plot and logical flaws doesn’t help either. Movies cannot be made with only brand name.
Bondishness is there in Casino Royale, but is only then and there. But okie … this bond is just an amateur. He will get better. Let us give him some time. But give this movie a miss this time.
