Castaway- a very optimistic plot, but unfortunately it doesnt live up to expectations.
For the first 30 minutes it isnt too bad, but nothing goes on. The main characters are introduced quite well and in just 20 minutes you seem to know lots about Chuck Noland, the main character.
You get the feeling something bad will happen straight away as Chuck is back and forth on a plane over the pacific ocean. One FedEx flight which Chuck is on crashes into the sea. The drama in this short time is brilliant as you see the small crew panic, trying to protect Chuck and at the same time trying to prevent the plane from falling. After this Chuck plays a dramatic survival part in the ocean on an inflatable boat. As the screen goes black it seems Chuck is dead..... Up to this point the film is quite watchable, and makes you want to carry on watching.
Whilst Chuck is on the island the story goes considerably down hill. As Chuck struggles to survive on his own it is interesting to see how he survives, but this is overcast by the lack of excitement as there is no actually conversation in the film for about an hour, except with his imaginary friend/ball Wilson. The story is quite emotional so if you are of that type make sure you have your tissues.
After spending four years on the island he decides to build a raft. This raft is very unstable, and as he sets sail you feel the excitement, hoping that the raft wont collapse.
Now I wont tell you the end of the story, because you might want to watch it, but nothing spectacular happens at the end.
I would only recommend watching Castaway if you like emotional, quite slow films.
However, Tom Hanks acting is outstanding throughout the whole film, and should be commended.
