I seem to be one of the few people who have had a bad experience in Cathay Pacific. The good news is that my bad experience was related to food and comfort - if that is not an issue with you on a 16 hour flight from LA to Hong Kong, then you will love this airline.
Having spilled the beans, Ill come straight to the point. The airlines staff and flight attendants et. al. were very co-operative and friendly and cheerful, but the actual service left much to be desired. We were served food an hour after take-off and an hour prior to landing. That left us starving for 14-hours. We asked the attendants for grub, but all they could give was drinks and cookies.
The space was extremely cramped - we were travelling economy. I have seen more space on Indian Airlines flights than on this flight. I must admit that the journey back was not so unpleasant. Of course the reason for that would be that we had packed our food and the flight length was shorter.
If you must travel on this airlines, please carry some food with you (I know it sounds silly, but you will not regret it), do not sleep prior to flight (the journey will seem shorter if you can knock off 8-10 hours in dreamland) and lose weight in order to fit into the seats with some degree of comfort.
