Last year a friend of mine & I planned for a 3 day break away in hills to a quaint place & my research led me to finalize Chail in Solan distt. Himachal.That trip was one of the finest experiences in hills.
We boarded Kalka mail at around 10 P.M. from old Delhi railway station to Kalka, luckily got tickets for AC First Class.By morning 4:30 we reached Kalka.The nip in d air started to be felt from dere only.
Unfortunately our Toy Train tickets were not done in advance hence we could not board the earliest train to KANDAGHAT(en route to Shimla, from where we had to hire a taxi to Chail).
I recommend , if you plan a trip to Chail, do book ur Toy Train Tickets in advance. however bought normal tickets for the next Toy Train which was around 7:30 A.M in d morning.
