Now I know its a little late to post a review when 58 reviews have already been posted.... But I couldnt help it.. The film is running full houses here and it was only tonight that I managed to get tickets.
One more thing friends... now it was the first time that I heard so many whistles in a multiplex at Hyderabad. I felt so unfortunate that I cannot whistle.... Someone plz teach me.
Coming to the movie.... Its one of the very rare sports based movies
that Bollywood has churned out. And moreover a good sports movie which
is rarer.
*Plot:
The plot is very simple. A wrongly maligned sportsman seeking redemption by coaching the womens team to world cup glory. His obstacles are numerous... lack of unity in team, an indifferent association.
Though, the story is simple and predictable... its the screenplay that keeps you on the edge of your seats. It wants you to feel Kabir Khans pain, the girls spirit, the excitement and the triumph.
If theres one real hero of the movie, its the screenplay. Hats off to
Jaideep Sahni. It shows that Bunty aur Babli was just a mistake.
*Performances:
*The movie is carried on his shoulders by SRK. He lives Kabir Khans
character. You are so relieved that he doesnt do his trademark SRK act
and he evokes just the right set of emotions. He definitely is one of
the best actors that Bollywood has produced. Watch out for his
expressions after Indias final win.
Among the girls, the Haryanvi girl Komal (Chitranshi) is magnificent.
She plays the Haryanvi tomboy to perfection and will definitely be
adored by all.
The Punjabi anger bomb Balbir Kaur is also the one who takes your mind share.
The girl playing Bindiya Naik is good and expresses anger, jealousy and ego with remarkable skill.
Others are also good but the ones who need special mention are above.
*Music:
*One more lifeline of this movie is its background score. Though
there isnt normally scope for songs in such movies, the songs are good
and play as background to elevate the impact of the movie.
*Scenes worth mention:
*There are some sequences that deserve special mention.
The introduction of the girls.
Kabir leaving his family house.
Scene after the match with mens team.
Quarter final match with Argentina.
Climax.
Now last but not the least. Theres one man whom I left behind to say
towards the end that... Look out for him... Hes here to stay and he
has in store some amazing talent to bring to life some of the coming
best cinematic experiences... Yes. hes none other than the man with
the directors cap... Shimit Amin.
Comments awaited...
