Chalk N Duster is a movie on the education system in our country starring Juhi Chawla, Shabana Azmi and Divya Dutta in lead roles. The movie is directed by Jayant Gilatar and produced by Amin Surani. Juhi plays the role of Jyoti and Azmi essays the character of Vidya, two high-school teachers whose professional lives turnes around at the appointment of an ambitious, greedy new principal Kamini(portrayed by Divya Dutta).
This movie deals with several pressing issues that need to be properly addressed. The movie puts light on the teachers, the knowledge providers who need support and encouragement like the students do. They are the backbone of any education system and it is about time that they get what they truly deserve.
Ensuring support and freedom to teachers is vital for a proper functioning of the education system. It is a classic case of triumph of good over evil, yet the way it is directed, it does not do justice to the story. The story is realistic but the direction is not all good. Some of the scenes were extremely boring. 3 stars is what this movie deserves, that too solely for the subject it is based on.
