After a huge gap I am writing this review. In fact I have settled to such a state, Himachal Pradesh, where there is no cinema hall and you have to depend upon your satellite TV or pirated DVDs. Even when I was in the USA or down south watching Hindi movies in cinema hall was not a problem at all, but here it is.
Still I have watched many recent movies through pirated DVDs. On of such has been CHalo Dilli, yesterday. A despo always makes a way!
However not writing reviews for long time had three reasons:1) My professional engagements 2)Not so compelling good movies in recent times to write a review on barring few like Phans Gaye Re Obama. 3) And certainly my state Himachal where I hardly watch any movie at right time so that it could be helpful for fresh releases.
A Fresh Breeze of Storyline, direction and screenplay:
However "Chalo Dilli" contrasting to many reviewes who had written bad about this movie, is refreshingly good movie and compelling enough to me to write its review. I want you all guys to watch this movie by the same team who had made Dasvidanya like classic. Chalo Dilli has a simple but fresh story, excellently timed screenplay and performance and a highly positive attitude "No Big Deal" = "Koi Baddi Baat Nahi Ji", which you will learn and appreciate. It is a story of a horribly wronged journey where protagonist were supposed to reach Delhi from Bombay, while traveling by plane, but land up into different and peculiar situations, in which any normal guy would piss-off...and then it shows that with what kind of attitude one is fittest to survive and get loved by all even in this era.
Chalo Dillis beauty has been the way director and writer took their view ont he entire story and characters. They have been very exact in displaying the characters and they also must thank every actor for their excellent performance and certainly Vinay Pathak for outstanding job. It shows the manageabiloty of our society and same time their uncertainty and volatility, and how perfectly one can still live on happily while coordinating with all. No melodrama, so sorrow detailing but all message told simply, with humor and heart. Thsi we call making an intelligent cinema despite of low budget.
Performance:
You have got superstar fascinated country, where movies are more like media and publicity proipelled alongwith star managed. Forget content thereafter. In recent times we can name few such movies like MNIK, TeesMarKhan, Kites, Gujarish ... man where is the maverick? where is the intelligence and brilliance defining a true movie making? And you pour limitless budget. For all such makers, CHalo DIlli and Phans Gaye Re Obama are good lessons...how to make a good movie.
The movie revolved around only two characters: GuptaJI(Vinay Pathak) and a Business Tycoon Lady(Lara Dutta), drastically different personalities: One is open and bindaas who can remember any name and befriend anyone within 2 minute sof meeting, and another one is a high society tycoon most of the time concerned about the banality she wears. Both the actors have done brilliant job, but this man, Vinay Pathak, is simply outstanding++. He is great performer, totally underrstanding his character and giving perfect expressions and mood, from farting openly to showing his chor pocket, and still carrying an underlining relevant sensitivity, which is disjoint of any mannerism. This is the actor, whose autograph I always want to take and if possible a snap with him. For me, Vinay pathak is an institution of acting and great performer who enthralled you with realistic portrayals. The kind of positivity he carries on in this entire movie is remarkable. Rest of the actors too have done their job well.
Song and music department: Not any much memorable songs, except Laila main Laila item number. I like that one, and for the female voice used in that song.
Final Verdict:
If you wish to get refreshing feeling, watching this movie is must for the season. It will bring cheer to you and at least energy for coming 7 days of your daily hectic life. May be for some, more than that! And those IPL chipkoo guys...come on..IPL has gone damn boring stuff and more so after we winning the world cup.
Go and enjoy Chalo Dilli.
