The story of the film revolves around, Raj(Shahrukh Khan), the owner of Raj Transport Company, who is hard-working, simple and love Sunny Deol`s songs.Once, on his way, CHALTE CHALTE, his truck hits with a car, and that car is of nobody else but Priya`s(Rani Mukherjee).Priya is from Greece and works as a fashion designer.Raj falls in love with Priya and starts following her.Priya, in Athens, has to be engaged to Sameer(Jas Arora), and Raj following Priya, goes there as well.Priya feels that she is in love with Raj, so she does not get engaged to Sameer and so gets married to Raj, against the wishes of her family.Then, there daily life problems start.Priya can not easily get along with Raj, because of his ways and Raj also faces problems with Priya`s ways of life.They are completely opposite of each other and one day, Priya asks Sameer for 25 lakh Rs.because he is in a problem.This hits Raj`s ego and in a party he insults Priya, that is why she leaves Raj!Will she return back?Can there love, ever be like that, when it was before?
DIRECTION AND THE WORK OF THE CREW:
Aziz Mirza`s direction is FANTASTIC!Emotional scenes and dramatic scenes are handled with maturity, especially the scene where Raj gets to know, that Priya has borrowed 15 lakh Rs.from Sameer.Undoubtedly, this is one of Aziz Mirza`s finest work!The first half is nothing interesting but the second half makes the journey start.The film strikes resemblance to Saathiya.Coincidentally Saathiya also starred both Shahrukh Khan(in a special appearance)Rani Mukherjee(as the lead actress).Screenplayis gripping, and is a plus point of the film, which will definitely be proved adventegous for the film.Rumi Jaffrey`s dialogues are beautiful.Editing, is fine, though many scenes could have been cut, because at many places, especially in the second half, the film seems to be dragged!Jatin-Lalit`s and Aadesh Shrivastava`s music is also amazing.’’Tauba Tumhaare Yeh Ishaare’’, ’’Suno Na Suno Na’’ and ’’Chalte Chalte’’are chartbusters.
A FACT ABOUT THE FILM
This film had to star Aishwariya Rai, instead of Rani Mukherjee, but Ash had to be replaced because of Salman Khan`s rude behaviour with Shahrukh Khan, during the making of the film.Salman said that Shahrukh was getting free with his ex-girlfriend.
AND NOW THE PERFORMANCES!:
Shahrukh Khan in the role of Raj fits like a glove.He has given an excellent performance, straight from the heart, for this film.Some people might say that he has overacted, but I would say that this performance is excellent and nothing different than the usual Shahrukh Khan performance.
Rani Mukherjee has really worked hard for this role, and it can clearly be seen in the film.From light moments to emotional scenes, she excels.Not only she performs well, but looks GORGEOUS.A natural and wonderful performance!
Satish Shah is his usual self, in not an interesting role.
Johnny Lever is not so loud here, still he was not needed!
Lilette Dubey as a rich woman, acts ably and gives a nice performance in a brief role!
Jas Arora goes unnoticed in an insignificant role!
ON THE WHOLE:
Chalte Chalte is an entertaining film!There is no suspense in the story but the excellent performances by the lead pair, make this film worth watching!They have great screen presence and will definitley not make you feel bore.All in all, it is an entertainer.Recommended!
