The world of Jackie Collins is something that has to be sampled by readers. Her books are simply unavoidable and sensational. She has made her mark in the world of books and there is no denying that.Ok, fine that her books contain and enormous quantity of sex but thats it.At least she does not hide behind some causes and parades the sex content in her books as something else.I admire her moxie and chutzpah for that.Well, so much praise for the lady is enough.
Chances is the first in the many series of books that Jackie has written and I personally think that she has fallen in love with the character of Lucky Santangelo which she has created.Lucky is that once in a lifetime woman who has been there and done it all.In order to realise what I am saying read the book.By no means it is dirty but, it has got a lot of profanity and gutter language. Those of us who say that they do not enjoy gutter language should still read this book because it teaches you a lot of things.
Some of my perspectives of life changed after reading her books. They have taught me to be more daring in life and to take my chances too regardless of the consequences. So, this then is the story of Gino Santangelo too, the father of Lucky.Mostly the story belongs to him as it traces his rise from humble beginnings to a famous gangster.Him being a gangster makes him stray away from all his parenteral responsibilities and as a result Lucky is always in the company of unsavoury folks where she gets most of her education of life. She is a terror to behold and makes the life of everyone miserable. Some of her pranks and questions bring a smile to the face of the reader.Even her father is embarassed because of her behavior.
Then Lucky grows to be 18 and her father is exiled to Greece for not filing tax returns and Lucky takes over his business. How she does that makes for the rest of the story. The main reason of me reading Jackie Collins books is her books are very fast paced and her prose is everyday language that most of us speak.Which is why I identify with her characters. They are are like so many people from our own lives. This book is peopled with so many such characters.
I have come across so many people who denounce Jackie Collins books saying that they find them dirty. If they can read Shobha De they can very well read Jackie too.Or maybe they like to read only desi dirty stuff.Believe me, give her books a try and I will say that they are worth a read. And her books have that vital ingredient which every reader worth his/her salt will ask:What Next? You never know what will happen in her books on the next page. All her books start with a prologue and end with an epilogue.
So, if you have not picked up a Collins book today, please do so and enjoy it.More reviews to follow.
