Chanda Ki Doli Mein

I believe that for about past 6 to 7 years, Hindi music has come to a standstill. It has become static; we are listening to the same type of music. There are a few exceptions like A.R. Rehman and Shankar-Ehsan-Loy who try something different in every movie they get. All the others are composing same type of music. Imagine living in a static world, where we would act like robots. Getting up at a fixed time, eating, bathing, doing one particular job at affixed time; it would all be very boring. Same is the case with music, if we hear the same thing again and again it becomes very boring. Today’s composers should understand this. And Sonu Nigam has given a thought to this.

His new album “Chanda ki Doli” has added a new dimension to his music world. It has 9 songs and one remix. All the songs have been sung and composed by him with lyrics by Nusrat Badr. Each song is unique and different from the others. I would not describe each and every song because they cannot be described in words. The songs are a set of true melody. They do not have the funkiness found in most of the songs nowadays.

On the surface the songs may not seem special. But a dedicated listener would be able to tell that all are masterpieces. Each and every song has a soul. The soul remains alive in your heart for a long time.

The title track is the best. This album is Sonu Nigam’s first attempt at music composing and I would give him 10/10 for his effort.
