Been here for last three years. Being an air warrior myself, I have been to places during my 14 years of service due to numerous transfers and attachments to various establishments all over India.
Chandigarh was the brain child of the first PM of our country and is the latest U/T city of India. It was planned by Le Carbussier and Nek Chand who were themselves master of their urban planning and architect skills.
Spread over 114 sq Kilometers, it is surrounded by a thick green belt of flora. It makes it an ideal green city too. It has a very high population density of around 8000 per Sq Km. It also has the higest per capita income in the country.
Parks are a special feature of this city as an ample amount of space have been provided for this purpose. Some of the most famous one are the Leisure valley park, Rajendra park, Botanical garden and the terrace garden.
Other tourist attractions are the Sukhna Lake, the Rose garden and the Rock Garden.
The Roads are the unique features of this city Beautiful. They are divided into` paths` and `margs` which are right angles to each other( forming a network) and paves the way for an efficient traffic management, considering the fact it has is No2 after New Delhi in terms of four wheelers.
The city has three AIIMS standard Government Hospitals- in Sector 16 & sector 32 and in Sector 14 as PGI.Many educational and cultural establishments are spread all over the city. The light industries are situated, the farthest from these establishments making them pollution free including the noise pollution.
The city is composed of more than 50 sectors which are enclosed with roads but sealed to direct access to the houses for easier movements of all type of mechanical transports. Each sector has green strips and accomodates schools and recreational facilities. Vehicular traffic is completely forbidden in and around these green strips to have a tranquil environment.
The plots are all cut into equal sizes. More than three storey house is not allowed and strict architectural and zoning control are enforced here.
The administration here is quite efficient with quick decision making system.
I have witnessed mechanised brooming of roads and manual brooming even on some holidays!! The power supply is un interrupted. I do not remember when the power supply was gone in Sector 31(where I reside) last time. The public transport system has sufficient number of Low floor and well maintained buses. The city is connected with almost all cities of the neighbouring states through the ISBT at sector 43.
The traffic police here is honest and quite strict in enforcing the law. I obtained a fresh Driving licence for LMV and Motor cycle. I did not find any `broker` during the whole process- the computerised written exam and practical test. I saw on the practical test day at least 40 percent getting failed in the test. Having a DL made in Chandigarh is in fact a proud possession for many, including me.
I am a wheel freak and love to observe all types of four wheelers from Limosine to Mecedes to Volkswagen and BMW. some models are rare in metros too, like the Roles Royce. Also there are proud owners of antique four wheelers too in sizeable numbers. They are lined up near the famous Sukhna Lake annualy.
This city, sadly, does not have fresh land to sell, or I would have settled here only.... Lol.
