What’s with a cinegoer, u ask?. Well, he goes, sees, applauds, weeps, laughs etc etc. In short, the whole gamut of life’s emotions is lived by a cinegoer in as less as 3 hrs.
Not anymore!! today’s cinegoer is a smart man (usually). He prefers to go for movies which he thinks will be value for money. No more going for movies just because a Amitabh (Rajnikant in the south, to be frank, still prevails) or a Shah Rukh is in it. The average cinegoer does not fall for marketing today as he did some years ago. A devdas can run for only so long because of it’s marketing.
But the cinegoer is also a surprise packet. Suddenly, one day he may decide that an unknown star is a big name tomorrow. The cinegoer today wants the best of everything. The ambience, the popcorn, even the love seats especially prepared for him. And usually, he is very picky about the places he wishes to watch movies in. No more shady theatres for him. He wants the air-conditioning to work, and more than 4 types of popcorn to be available.
The cinegoer, sadly to say, is more likely to look at the surroundings than not. A devdas won’t run in a small theatre which is dirty, but will do good business in a nice one. Again, this is not always true. Do u think I am confused? U bet I am.
The cinegoer has always been unpredictable, and always will be.
