If you are regular cinema goer or Hindi film viewer you would have noticed one new trend swaying the film industry is the inclusion of Sardarjis(Sikhs) in almost every movie , if not Sardars then their ultimate replacement, that is Punjabi either music or any character of the movie (please don?t say that Punjabi means Sardar , Hindu Punjabis and Muslim Punjabis are absolutely different from Sikhs. Most of the people confuse Punjabi with Sikhs , Punjabi doesn?t mean only Sikhs).
This peculiar trend that has picked up in the industry is not new , but it has gathered pace quite recently. If Sardars are not used for big roles they are awarded either a small comic or bravery role.
Take examples of recent movies , the big hits of this year MAIN HOON NAA had Kabir Bedi(Bakshi) as a Sardar who gives order to Shahrukh to Salvage his daughter?s life who might become the target of Anti-Govt. people.
WhileVEER-ZAARA saw its favourable setup in the Mustard-fields of Punjab and promulgated the festival of Lohri.
Even in MURDER the person responsible for investigation was a Sikh.
Who can forget the solid performance of Kid Sardar in Karan Johar?s KUCH KUCH HOTA HAI , Johny Lever in RAJA HINDUSTANI , and the scene of Handpump being taken out from its root (well , it made me burst into laughter)in GADAR-EK PREM KATHA.
SO SARDAR IMPACT CONTINUES?..
SOME TRENDS OR HISTORY REGARDING SARDARS IN BOLLYWOOD
DOES THE INCLUSION OF SARDAR MAKES MOVIE MORE DHAMAKEDAR?
This question may sound unusual for public who is concerned with only enjoyment of the movies , but for producers and directors they are acting as a good luck sign that?s why we are watching them quite frequently in many movies especially in Chopra?s and Johar?s movie. But excess of Punjabi may become fatal in coming future for Hindi Cinema , because people have now become over acquainted with Punjabi.
ARE SARDARS NECESSARY FOR SOLDIERY ACT?
Rarely in a war movie it has been witnessed that a sardar not being included.
I am not trying to say that they have not done enough as shown in the movies in fact they have done more than that for this country , but u have separate sagas of bravery on every regiment?s part like Rajputana rifles , Jat regiment which have very few Sardars , and have made this country proud on their own (without Sardar) then why their part is not shown on a large scale in Bollywood.
It clarifies its love for them.
KARAN JOHAR?S LOVE FOR SARDARS
Jhappi with sardar , Pappi with sardar This is the Mantra of success for Karan Johar , From K2H2 to KHNH he used Sikhs in his movie , he has emerged as a biggest Sikh Lover in Bollywood as a Director/producer , It adds more color to his already fine-tuned movie. The ?tusi naa jao` dialogue of Kid in K2H2, the Chahhda?s scene of K3G , ?kunwaari kudi` of KAL HO NAA HO adds good & appropriate humor to the movie. He makes people laugh by his wonderfully chosen roles for Sikhs. Expecting a lot from his forthcoming Production.
ANIL SHARMA?S LOVE FOR SARDARS
Director of Gadar-Ek Prem Katha is determined to show Sardars as the most brave people on earth , From fighting out the nation?s army in moving train to removing handpump from its base he has built so many Castles in air regarding the bravery sagas of Sardars.
Well, in reality if we go by these Directors/Producers we will conclude that Sardars are good sign with comedy , best &ONLY suited for soldiery & hypothetical bravery acts. They are as simple like non-sikhs but are easygoing and lovable people.
Keeping all these arguments aside I would like to pay my heartiest gratitude to this tolerant community who suffered the worst in this world after Jew community and also Bollywood who didn?t spare it?s bit to bow in front of this such lively culture & community and provided much needed moral support , which I think played significant role in Dragging terrorism and separatist feeling out of Sikhs and hence helped in making Punjab a safe place in India.
