Charmed is a new series on - Star World, Wednesdays 9pm.
This show is about about three young sisters who have come to live in their grandmother’s Victorian house. This house has been in their family for generations and even though the sisters don’t get along with each other, they agree to come and live here. Then the youngest sister finds a book titled Book of Shadows. This is a book of witchcraft & it describes about ’’The Charmed Ones’’, three of most powerful witches who, on a full moon night will come together to receive their powers [sounds like our hindi films na?]
The three young witches are:
Prue (Shannon Doherty - remember her as Brenda from Beverly Hills show),
Prue is the strongest and most protective eldest sister. Since their mom’s death, Prue has spent much of her childhood keeping an eye on her sisters & she is too strict with the youngest one. Prue has am ambition of being a photographer.
Piper (Holly Marie Combs- from Picket Fences serial)
She is the middle sister & also acts as the peacemaker in the family. she has the power to freeze time. Piper acts as the peacemaker in the family. She is dedicated, has endless patience & a generous person. Piper is a chef and runs a club called P3.
Phoebe (Alyssa Milano)
The youngest sister, she is a carefree, spontaneous girl who isn’t afraid of anyone or anything. She is a romantic and a dreamer with a rich, poetic imagination. She has the powers of Psychometry & Precognition, or to see the future and past.
As soon they read the book, their witchly powers are ’’activated’’. But these aren’t our ordinary witches who create havoc & cast bad spells, these are ’’The Charmed Ones’’ - most powerful good witches. Their task is to help/protect innocents & at the sametime maintain a normal life for themselves. They also have to keep their power as a much guarded secret. However, they discover that it is not easy or fun to be a witch & it soon becomes life threatening for them. There is a warlock [a male witch] out there who is killing all the local witches as he wants to steal their powers. The three sisters are next in line !
Together they have the’’ power of three’’ and they are able to ’’freeze out’’ the warlock in the first episode........however, there are many more to come.

The promos for this serial were very catchy & in the first episode it seemed to be a good show. Initially it was interesting to see the 3 girls interact with each other & overcoming their petty sisterly grudges to be good witches & help humankind. The show is full of magical tricks & amusing situations - esp. When Phoebe can see their futures with their boyfriends.
The best part of the series is performance by all the three actresses - Doherty, Combs, and Milano. They are very convincing as sisters [make me wish my sisters would be as good & magical too]
I like the concept & look of the serial but there is something amiss - maybe its not as funny as the other shows on Star World. I’d recommend this show only if you like watching magical tricks [like Sabrina the teenage witch series] and have nothing better to do for an hour.
