Well well Well.... Three beautiful witches kicking as..s and all we have is three reviews all by members of fairer sex !! Where have all the testosterone gone. Come on Guys Aaron spelling would die of heart attack if he knew that in India more female watch this series than males ;-)
Jokes Apart, Im Taking bout Star Worlds Wednesday nights Charmed series. It is from the makers of the movie The Craft. It is about three sisters who together have the most powerful magical power of the world, not Surprisingly called The Power of Three. How these three go about chasing & busting daemons and in the process sometimes falling in love with them or sometimes becoming daemons themselves is what this series is all about. Then there is their heavenly guard Leo, the white-lighter (who is now the husband of the eldest one).
The Three sisters at the start of the series were Prue (Shannon Dohorthy), Piper(Holly Marie Combs) & Phoebe (Alyssa Milano). But after Prues Death (Thats what happens when an actor exits a series) they are joined by Paige(Rose Mcgowan) who is also their sister from their mothers other love(her white-lighter incidentally). They possess different powers, Piper can stop time, Phoebe has premonitions of future, and Paige can move objects with her mind with the added ability of Orbing or transporting ala Star Trek(though without any help from a starship engineer) and also healing people, as her father was a white-lighter. Together these three have got heavenly license to kill--daemons of course and in every episode the old saga of good versus evil is played with different characters.
The series is well made and holds your interest. Though nothing exceptional about it but it succeeds to entertain you. The screenplay every now & then throws up a few surprises so the story never feels stale. The USP of the series are no doubt the three beautiful & sexy witches who in the process of vanquishing daemons also showcase the latest fashion in Hollywood ramp. But whos complaining ;-)
They put up decent performances and manage to hold your eyeballs. Whereas miss Milano scores on the looks front (she was rumored to be the reason for the high profile Justin-Britney breakup), miss Combs is I think the real star of the show. Shes the most charming of the charmed ones. I personally do miss Shannon Dohorthy she was a nice blend of both of her younger sisters. The series is made for family audience so you dont need to have your personal TV set or watch it at odd hours ;-). I also like the title track of the series sung by Love Split Love.
It is difficult to categorize the series in one particular genre, though Drama is what the channel says, I think it should be Romantic Comedy + Drama, Romantic Drama (that sounds tacky, any suggestions....anyway forget it). Its a nice escape. The series is a success in the US and currently in its 5th season with a promised run of two more season so gear up and get ready to get charmed.
Though in a perfect world I would give it three stars but even at one star per witch that would mean no star for the show and that would be injustice ;-) and who said that the world is perfect. So I give it four stars and anyway since then we testosterone driven males are considered logical
when it comes to beauty, even in perfect world ;-)). As they say, A thing of beauty is a joy forever.Njoy.
