Unprofessional Behavior

This is with regard to my visit to Charnock Hospital(Kolkata) on the 16th of October 2017 to accompany a Patient with the symptom of high fever into the emergency ward.

The Patient was covered under the mediclaim policy provided by the West Bengal Health for all employees and Pensioner Cashless Medical Treatment Scheme 2014.

Mr. Suman Chakraborty the Night Super of the Charnock Hospital said that no General Bed Accommodation was available and that Patient would have to be admitted to Cabin Accommodation for which the charges were unfortunately very high. Mr. Suman Chakraborty further added that once the Patient was admitted in the cabin, the patient could be shifted to the general ward if it had any room available on the next day.

However, in the event that the Patient is admitted into Cabin Accommodation and later shifted to the General Ward, the cashless facility of Hospitalisation will not be made available to the Patient and hence he would have to bear the complete charge of the treatment and that too in cash.

Furthermore, they were accepting the admission of Patient into the hospital under the suspicion of dengue fever but the confirmative dengue test was to be carried out by them on the next day.

Mr. Suman Chakraborty backed up whatever he was stating by citing that his statements were in accordance with a circular regarding denial of cashless hospitalisation that had been received about 3 months ago.

A representative from the Patient’s Company who had underwent a similar circumstance and possessed a very good knowledge about the cashless process, wanted to speak to Mr. Suman Chakraborty regarding this matter. When I asked Mr. Suman Chakraborty to converse with the person on the phone regarding this matter, Mr. Suman Chakraborty started misbehaving with me.

A representative from the Hospital asked me to be by the Patient’s side in the emergency room. Later on, Mr. Suman Chakraborty misbehaved with me yet again and asked me to get out of the emergency room immediately when I had asked him to talk to the person over the phone who wanted to know more about the circular.

Mr. Suman Chakraborty was very rude in his demeanor and proceeded to insult me in front of many individuals. Mr Suman Chakraborty was not able to provide a copy of the said circular in spite of my repeated requests. Due to such non-patient oriented behaviour from his side, I refrained from getting the patient admitted at Charnock Hospital. In my humble opinion, being from the Service and Hospitality Industry myself, an unprofessional person such as Mr. Suman Chakraborty should be immediately removed from his post for the sake of the prestige of a renowned hospital such as Charnock Hospital. The same has been intimated by me to the Grievance Cell Nodal Officer of the Charnock Hospital, Ms. Ispita Kundu, over the phone.
