Where to start I am still unable to find any proper starting place to give a feedback. I came from Delhi and had contracted dengue. On external doctors advice, I was taken to the hospital. Here are details of my stay.
I was treated as an emergency and I felt my situation similar to the movie Munna Bhai MBBS scene where Sanjay Dutt cries emergency seeing his parents. Immediately they conducted all sorts of tests and did channeling in my right hand, did x-ray and shifted me to ICU. ICU never looked like ICU( It was like fish market), there were too many people(nurses, doctors, housekeeping staff and also quite surprising the billing only for ICU was also inside ICU. The whole day and night people would be gossiping, laughing, enjoying and creating all raucous inside ICU. They didnt care much if patients needed peaceful environment or not. Early morning senior doctors arrived and did round. For every patient barely 2-3 minutes. During that time more noise would be created by all the superintendents, billing staff. My family members never were allowed to meet my consultant.
Whenever there was an emergency all the ICU staff would know beforehand and would allott number to the patient and would dance with great joy. I saw that one of the superintendents was jumping and dancing and with her all the people were in celebratory mood. To them number 6506 or 6507 was the good source of income for atleast 4-5 days. Usually in our ancient Indian culture medical practitioner, doctors would pray to god that people dont get sick but in todays world people were feeling more joyous and in celebratory mood seeing people joining ICU as a patient.
Low level support staff were most of the time good natured and were overburdened by the hospital with lot of responsibilities. Nurses would be given task of taking care of patients almost like 5-10 patients and also they would be assigned to do lot of paper work. Paper work would consume their time thus they were like forced to ignore patients care at certain time.
I had normal vitals after 2 days of treatment and my family requested hospital staff to shift to general ward and they took like almost 12 hours to shift to general ward.
After another 2 days, my family requested for discharge and hospital staff told them that they would discharge me soon. Next morning when I was about to be discharged a female doctor came to do regular checkup she asked me what had happened to me I told her I had dengue and she told me that I was not to be admitted to hospital it was not that serious and immediately asked nurse to prepare for my discharge. After she left an old doctor came and again did my check up and he had prepared list of all patients whom to discharge and whom not to. He told nurses to immediately stop my discharge as I cant be discharged. I had all normal vitals and was walking and sitting normally. After I was discharged I went for check up after one week only to be told by staff that I need to take appointment 15 days before. After much request and argument they agreed and arranged meeting with doctor who turned after 2 hours delay.
Hospital is run at random basis there are no proper policies or procedures in place. It is run by amateur and does not possess any professional touch. Policies can change anytime and Hospital is run like old days hospital with old technologies. In today;s world technology is the key and they are depending on paper work. They never gave me original bill and reports and told my family that it is not allowed.
Definitely India lacks ethical medical practices and hospitals and there is lot that is desired.
