Okay dont even ask me why I missed this one when it released in the theatres. cause I dont remember how could I have!
have been cursing myself since last nite when I finally got down to watching this brilliant piece of work on dvd.
Awesome is just the word to describe this first film director and if I have to say in the style of the Big B himself, then the film is simply "mind blowing".
For the first time probably in Hindi cinema, here is a film where the actors actually play their own age and are completely convincing.
The story is very believable - could happen to any of us or to someone we know.
Only that I dont think there is a 64 year old man who is as cool, and sexy and awesome as Mr Bachchan.
So Mr B plays a chef in what he describes as the authentic Indian restaurant in London.
Tabu who is visiting a friend, makes a comment about his hyderabadi pulao and this interaction then leads to flirting which in turn leads to romance.
The progression in the film is so natural that you just go with the flow. The director is kept it completely authentic with no use of background score(which seemed a bit odd to me).
Apart from the romance there is a parallel track of Mr B and his mother played by the most adorable Zohra Sehgal(who again at 90 plays her age).
And there is the story of a lil girl who is dying of cancer who also happens to be Mr bs neighbour and the centre of his otherwise-so-boring life.
The dialogues, especially Mr Bs one-liners are very witty and he says them with utmost ease.
I cant harp enough about the fact that how perfect is the casting of the film.
In the second half, comes in Tabus father - Paresh Rawal and that part of the story revolves around first trying to tell him that Mr B wants to marry Tabu and then trying to convince him of the same,
The going is all well until the sequence before the climax, where Mr B breaks down. In a realistic film, this scene rather hits you as melodramatic and filmi!
And I guess one could have done away with it or atleast done it in a more natural manner.
All in all it is a great film and if not for Mr B . the film wouldnt be so great
So all of you who like me gave this one a miss, pls do watch it on dvd. you will not regret it.
