Chef is a simple movie with a Urban touch that will work in top metros and top 10 Tier 2 cities for sure.
In an era where, "Find your dream" is the flavor of the movie makers, Chef is a beautiful dish served with, sweet and slight tangy feel.
The Plot:
The Plot is simple, A Dehlite middle aged divorcee chef looses his job in the "big apple" and comes back to "Queen of Arabian Sea", to reconcile with his son.
here in the Backwaters, he and his son start to enjoy each others company, so does his ex-wife.
His ex-wifes friend, offers him a business proposal; to run start a restaurant on wheels, and the story starts to roll; with their journey from The Malabar Coast to The National Capital.
There are some flashbacks, which unlike a typical Bollywood movies is not shown, but told like a story.
The Performances:
Saif Ali Khan has always played Urban Guy, like a pro, no one in the industry can play a City dweller like he does, being the only famed face from the Hindi Industry in this movie, he has justified his role.
Padampriya plays a Malyali Classical Dancer, and a Strong lady with a forward looking mindset.
Svar Kamble plays as most people of his age are; a teenager who fights with his dad frequently but finds a hero in him eventually.
Chandan Roy Sanyal is a good actor, he should work more in Hindi films.
The biggest surprise is Milind Soman, I am personally so envious of this man.
Men of his age start playing father and stuff on screen. this man is swaying away all the girls with his "oh so sexy" look. and his voice is too good.
even though his role was small, he made sure to make a mark of it. The only regret Bollywood will always have is that they never saw the actors in Models like John Abraham and Milind Soman.
The Music:
For most of the part music seems to be forgettable, Though the Raghav Dixit song is peppy, but lyrics "Sugar Laga le" by Ankur Tiwari are not very catchy. so are other songs
The Cinematography:
The movie travels from some of the best cinematic locations in India and US; you have NYC; Backwaters of Kerala; Amritsar; Old Delhi; Goa.
Being a road trip movie the Cinematography is a major booster in bringing the feel of the movie.
Overall a good simple movie to watch on weekend, with friends.
