Iam from chennai (madras), and have read your review, its quite pleasing to note that you liked chennai regarding its shopping parades and malls. Well, as far as I know about the origin of Burma bazaar, the Burmese came to that particular area as refugees during the British rule and the word Burma Bazaar sticked to it till date.
Chennai is also a budget feel city with prices very normal. Its quite cheaper when compared to cities like Kochi, Coimbatore, thats the reason why people throng to chennai during shopping periods. And as the divali season is drawing near, its bumper time for shoppers. Hope you come back again for your shopping. theres a new showroom by Saravana stores at Panagal park where it even has eletronic items for so cheap, like the latest cell phones, dvds, etc. Let me tell you one example, when I enquired about the price of Nokia 3230 at Universal, it was rated as 15, 500/=, but at Saravana stores, its 13, 650/= with one year warranty and bill. You have to go in the morning at 9am where there wont be any rush. bye for now.
