Do not buy this car for unless
1) You start your car at 9 am and just drive to work w/o even idling the engine
2) Want a car with nicer interior looks among mid sizers.
3) You are going to sell it within a year.
Well where do we start?
This car has a ok-ish engine pick up, a dead gearbox(rather a stick fitted with super glue), and a pretty decent ride quality, comes in 1.6 and 1.4 ltr variants. What do I say, Engine is , not so smooth, very coarse at top ends, and moreso its a modified version of the DAEWOO Cielo’s NEXIA version 1.5 ltr .... Slot into first gear after understanding the movements of the ’box, Then moving on shift into 2nd(my hate for the gearbox continues). this gets really irritating in traffic, even though the car has nice ratios which suit urban traffic, the hard shifting gerabox is a real BORE. I move into bumpy roads and suspension feels stiff but im sure it would get noisy with more people inside the car. And I must say, it did not give me any feeling to go into a corner. Drive a vehicle which competes with the aveo in its segment and you will definitely agree this car is a flop when it comes to energetic driving (not naming the competitor’s). The aveo engine laboured until a certain stage and then it suddenly feels energetic, but moves on with a remorse...And about seating, people with a height of even 5’9" will not get a comfortable position in the drivers seat, cuz even if u keep the seat adjusted in the middle for comfort of rear passenger ur leg starts touching the creamy console in front of ur legs, neva mind buy this car only if u like those first three reason’s. The car has Airbags and ABS, which gives you a felling you are getting a better bang for your buck, but then again which avg car owner needs them in an indian city where airbags save your life!. The Aveo crashed out in euro 2006 NCAP safety test in late 2006. (weird considerin its safety feat.).
But the interiors of this car is a reason to smile. Easily the best looking interiors and the feel was ok too, and the trademark shiny grill’s all chevy’s carry which lends a bling look to it. Styling too is good considerin its done by guigaro.
What with maruti’s SX4 and honda’s city biting the sales away the aveo moves very little on the sales-chart..
