It is said that purchasing a car is a subjective decision - for me it holds good !
My decision to purchase the Aveo was made discounting conventional wisdom - ie. reviews,
feedback, test drives, american cars are best avoided (?)....
No one will dispute Aveos looks, sturdy build and plush interiors which definitely sets standards and raises the bar.
The plus points extends to the ride, handling from an average commuters perpective. I do not
possess the knowledge to critique the bhp, rpm, torque and refrain from doing so.
However the pick-up seemed a lot more sluggish when compared to the car I test drove prior to purchase.
I have had the car for slightly over a month and the fuel consumtion is nothing to write home about.
Considering the VGIS bit is highlighted - I expected better fuel economy than say Accent which has a dated engine. I suspect that Fiesta scores over Aveo in this respect partly because of the tyre size. There has to be trade off for the ride comfort on account of tyre width and fuel consumption.
The lever for wipers being on the right is an irritant. One has to conscious not to set off the wipers when using the turn indicators. As i have two cars juggling with controls on opposite sides is easier said than done.
My only advice to prospective buyers is to check out the service facility of the dealer prior to purchase. I was most disappointed with the waiting area / facilities. I was the lone owner in company of Tavera Taxi drivers some of whom had not had a bath in a while. I guess the presumption may be that Aveo / Optra owners would necessarily have drivers who would take the car for servicing.
I realised at the time of service that I would be spending much more time at the dealers workshp getting the car serviced than the time I spent at the showroom purchasing the car.
This probably holds good for any car purchase - check out the service set up prior to purchase.
