Small, yet zippy

The Chevy Spark has a few major limitations. they are:

1> The dashboard is not properly  inclined. The thigh/knee of the driver’s clutch leg will keep banging into the steering wheel, everytime he/she presses clutch, or even brakes. This makes the driving uncomfortable, as the driver has to keep adjusting his body position everytime. To rectify this, they should rotate the entire steering wheel, dashboard up by 15-20 degrees.

2> In India, we drive on the left hand side of the road. So, we need right-hand drive. The entire steering panel is designed for Left-hand, not right-hand drive. Its as though its been lifted up from one side(Left) and plonked into the other(Right-hand) .Perhaps the Chevy designers got mixed up on this teensy detail. This means that the positions of the indicator and light switches are interchanged from what we are otherwise used to. This makes the driving a bit worrisome, as you have to keep reminding yourself which side the switches are.

3> Its cramped inside. Especially for the people sitting in the back-seat. Space is limited for a normal Indian family. Even in front, if you are tall, your knees will bang against the steering panel permanently. Leg space and coiling height is limited. I know its a small car, but then again, Indica is also a small car. No space complaints there.

The good points are:

1> The engine is very, very, responsive. Almost like a sports car;

2> The gearbox is nifty, and gears change easily and quickly;

3> Acceleration and braking are excellent, considering the engine capacity;

4> The car is quite manouverable, especially in city traffic;

It is not a family car, and is definitely not built for more than a

maximum of two tall people(they would sit in front). The rest of the

passengers would have to be short.

Overall, if you’re short, single, (or newly wed) and looking for a zippy mini-sports car, this one’s for you.
