Summer's gem takes flight

The storyline is one of the most important elements that will make or break an animated film. Especially an animated film due to the fact of all careful planning and hard work for each scene, storyboards, direction, lighting, character design.and many more. The greatest technical achievement is the usage of stop-motion animation, a relatively dying form of animation, because of the pain-staking, meticulous, close attention to detail of every movement and action by hand.

Chicken run fortunately has a really great story for everyone to enjoy, plus outstanding animation with just stellar direction that almost rivals any live action movie this year to date. It’s a shame that most of the animated summer hype went to both dinosaur and Titan A.E, each of which had there own greatnesses and disappointments, and there really was no acknowledgement of chicken run.

Overall I can’t really say enough about this movie, it pretty much has a little of everything. One of the greatest things about this movie is the consistent comedy throughout the film, if your not laughing at a scene your just grinning for the most part. Another is the great dynamic characters established that carry the audience from beginning to end. Unlike Disney, the dramatic scenes involving the characters are shown through artistic direction with mood and atmosphere and to the direct point without having to go into unnecessary song.

I was overwhelmed at the dynamic and great story in the movie. I really saw nothing wrong with the way the plot goes at all, the film kept a very good pace and I was really absorbed into the film. The main characters have actual substance to them, they are very dynamic and careful thought out. The humor is done well but only the adults will get most of it especially during the great references to Star Trek and Indiana Jones during the most of the film. The character design used was very unique and had style to it, each were modeled and full of detail and color and showed all of the expressive emotion in there animation.

The overall models with the props and sets were full of rich texture and detail. The whole barn scene with the pie machine was given such special attention and you can tell at lot of research went into each farm tool, furnishings and even the buckets used. The lighting and direction were such a technical achievement that set the mood and action perfectly. The lighting had made a darker mood which perfectly enhanced the World War II setting. The voices for the characters were a perfect fit and done very well

In conclusion I couldn’t even think of a con that would be worth stating because there really is none. This movie caught me a little by surprized even though I wanted to see it anyway for it’s awesome animation. This is a movie for general audience, not just kids, that want a good laugh and to be entertained. I didn’t think this movie would appeal to the average movie-goer particular adults because some don’t really care about animated films and the work that’s goes into them. So basically the whole family will enjoy this delightful film as well as animation fans. The great story, character design, humor and emotion feel with make this one the best movies of the summer if not for the whole year of 2000
