On a recent visit to Pune I happenned to visit the Chinese Room in Pune on East Street.I was visiting this place after a long time, maybe 10 years.I found the place exactly like it was earlier.The ambience and decor are nothing much to write about but the drinks, food and service are great.The staff are very courteous and accomodate you in the table of your choice.
Once you order the drinks, it is accompanied by two bowls1)diced cabbage and 2)carrot and cucumber doused with vinegar.Both taste delicious on their own and is quite addictive.For starters you can order steamed wantons in place of fried wantons and also try out their Drums of heaven which is heavenly.The wantons are available with veg, prawn or chicken filling and come 8 to a plate.
For soup, my alltime favourite is the seafood soup.It is a combination of crab meat, prawns and fish in quite a spicy soup.
For the main course I always prefer the fried rice or noodles with either prawns or chicken in red garlic sauce/schezwan sauce.Some of the pork dishes are also excellent here.By now, you must feel full but if you still feel like a dessert you can try the honey fried noodles with icecream.
The most excellent part of this visit was that the taste and quality was almost the same as I had visited about a decade back.May it continue to maintain this tradition.
