Chinese import to Mughal architecture

This place is located around 3-4 kms from the Agra City Railway Station on the opposite side of the Yamuna. Infact it is just on the banks of the river and gives a very nice view of in the morning, better if there is haze.

I was surprised to see this monument, because unlike many other monuments built by Mughals, this was not of Red sandstone but of imported granite from China and thus the name Chini ka Rauza. This is the tomb of Shah Jehan’s wazir Afzal Khan who was also a great poet and singer. The architectural style of this monument is bland in comparison to other Mughal buildings. The government has also made shoddy work of it by not conserving the monument properly infact mush of it looks faded and dirty. A lot of travellers seemed to have scribbled over the structures tarring its image even further. The place is not cleaned well too.

It was sad to see the a wonderful piece of culture being destroyed by the lack of application by authorities. And due to lackadaisical attitude, this remains quite a dull place. I decided to visit it just for viewing after taking a glance from the taxi, it wasn’t mentioned on the agra tour guide I had. And this place didnt feel safe either there were many creeps roaming around

There is a lot of scope for improvement in the management and I would like to see the government spruce some things up here before my next visit.
