We visited Chitradurga on our way to Goa. It is connected to Bangalore with a really good toll road, just 3 hrs drive from Bangalore. We thought it would be just a small stopover before moving on, but we explored the place whole day, still we felt we should see it more.
It has 7-layered stone wall protection(Elu Suttina Kote). Inside, there are many temple complexes, chieftains offices(palegara kacheri), an entire residential complex, gunpowder grinding stone(the largest in Asia), granaries, massive water tanks(Akka-Thangi Honda) that could hold water for 12 years once filled, gymnasiums, the iconic Onake Obavva Kindi, even a penal section for criminals, Kudure Hejje, etc.that list goes on.
Whenever I find time soon, I am anxious to visit Durga once again.
