GOOD FOR CASUAL READING

CHITRALEKHA, this magazine has nothing much to boast about. It is a magazine for casual reading. It does not strain your mind while reading and hence it is a favorite for reading during travelling. In local sub-urban train you will find hundreds of people reading it. There are popular slots like cross-word puzzle, humorous articles, something on current topics but nothing serious. Nothing to stress your mind.

It is a weekly in Gujarati- a regional language of India and finds place in thousands of houses including mine. Some time you find topics forgotten by other magazines but surely worth reading.

I particularly would like to write a little more about it’s decades old serial-DUNIYA NE UNDHA CHASMA. It is a light comedy centering around a middle class family of Jethabhai. Jethabhai, his father Champaklal, his wife Dayaben and the notorious son Tapu. Each one is a typical comical character. Over decades, Tapu has not grown by even a day! His innocent acts or innocent mischiefs (really innocent) bring you a smile. For a casual reading, it is really good.

The quality of papers and printing is eye-catching. The photographs are normally marvelous.

When it brings out unknown facts about known people or place or happenings, you simply wonder. This is a special style of the magazine.

CONCLUSION: It is a magazine you may read or not, but in case you read, you will surely like. It is definitely money’s worth!
