Deep, Dark Secrets

Indeed this movie is like one big secret being unwrapped one layer at a time. However, many movie goers are likely to be somewhat disappointed when the movie ends.

Although this is a suspense thriller type of movie, there are a lot of loose ends and things left unsaid at the end. On your way home from the movie, you will have at least a dozen questions.

The nice thing here would be if the director intentionally made it that way – meaning that you can fill in your own explanations about what may have happened, but I don’t think too many people are going to like such a concept.

The movie is big mix of action, suspense, drama, and a few loose lifts from Hollywood. The promos were fantastic, casting was superb, and the cinematography is at Hollywood quality, but many will find it to be a bit slow paced.

As usual Irfan Khan shines in this movie – the other big star being Anil Kapoor. These two steal the focus of the movie only to be interrupted by an occasional song. The movie has a few songs .

One thing I did like a lot about this movie was their very catchy signature tune. It has been used several times in the movie in different moods. It will be sure to keep you humming for a while even though it seems more apt for a shampoo commercial rather than one for a soft drink. But I could be feeling that way because of the slight resemblance the tune had with the Liril ad.

If you liked ‘Musafir’ for any kind of reason, you will likely find ‘Chocolate’ as enjoyable. It takes a certain type enjoy this movie. The ones who do enjoy that type should see it on the big screen whereas others better watch it at home to save a few bucks.

You will enjoy this movie best with a bunch of other serious movie goers. Leave the aayah and kids at home! And don’t spend too much time trying to figure out what the whole plot was all about - it’s simply not worth the effort!
