Everyone knows that secrets should never be published on the internet. But c’mon, I’m a girl who roams around in torn up jeans…what do you expect of me? I’ll tell you a secret. You know all those underworld gangs and overworld disguises, those get-away vehicles and come-away girls, those bank robberies and banked up lives? I am part of them all…maybe not the leader…but still a part. I live on the sharp knife edge, turning on roads of danger, with death lurking around every corner…and I’ll tell you how you can be a part of them to – you go to the meeting place (cinema), get the almighty power food (popcorn/ice-cream) and sit in the hall. The movie will make you all part of it ;)
You knew this revu woz going to come didn’t you? First there woz my Chocolate album revu (which made it to the hot reviews section, even though it woznt that great!) and then there woz my Cadbury Dairy Milk revu (which got a lot of comments :D)…and this is the final one drumroll….– the CHOCOLATE movie revu!! I’m kinda getting sickened by all the sugar, so no more sucrose revus for me :P
Lets party with some Publicity…
Remember the last set of IIFA awards? And the magnificent showbiz feel of the whole ceremony. Well that was when Chocolate was first mentioned. I was seriously left thinking that it must be some comedy spoof that was being pulled off as part of the entertainment…but then I found out that it was that name of a real movie!! That was funny…
And then there were the usual television promos, and I never expected much of this movie in the first place. And Tanushree Dutta actually looks sensible in the ads…(apart from the Mummy Ko Nahi Hai Pata song). But the music was fabulicious, and I loved the album.
Excuse me, do I know you?
The film didn’t have any super duper reigning kings of Bollywood as part of the production crew. The director is Vivek Agnihotri, who set forth to “revive suspense drama”. Film was mostly well-known for its delicious title, and all the stars that had dropped down from the sky to perform in it – Anil Kapoor, Sushma Reddy, Suniel Shetty, Irfan Khan, Ashad Warsi, Emraan Hashmi and Tanushree Datta!
I’ve got the full story on the front page…
The story starts off with a disorganised London-based journalist, going by the name of Monsoon (Sushma Reddy). All you need to know about her is that she spends a lot of time adjusting her breasts and sorting out her sex life! She gets handed a case concerning this Indian couple, who have been arrested by the British police for stealing 20 billion pounds (ive never talked about that much money in my whole life!) from the Royal Bank. She believes that they are innocent, but need a good lawyer to defend their case.
Enter Krishna Pandit (Anil Kapoor). He’s not just a good lawyer, he’s the best! With a variety of cases under his belt, and nothing less than a win in every one, he is seen constantly with a cigarette in his mouth (didn’t they ban smoking on celluloid?). Monsoon and him have some sort of relationship, which is sweet in a twisted way :S
So he starts talking to the couple – PP (Irfan Khan ) and Sim (Tanushree Dutta) – to try and get the full story out of them. They tell him that they had 3 other friends – Chip (Arshad Warsi), Deva ( Emraan Hashmi ) and Rocker ( Suniel Shetty ).
Their story starts off like this – all 5 of them had a passion for music, but had other work at the same time. Sim was a waitress, PP was an artist, Chip was a computer hacker, Deva was into technology and Rocker stole sexy cars :P One night they were singing, when a famous ad producer tells them that if they make a jingle by the next morning, then he would give them 20, 000 pounds! Rocker doesn’t believe him and goes off to drown his taste buds in beer. The rest of them try their luck and come up with a fantastic tune! After a barking fit from the dogs, they forget the tune! (what a story…) That very night Rocker gets killed. The next morning on the train they hear someone singing their tune. They all chase after him and Chip and Deva end up getting shot.
Krishna doesn’t believe this story at all. He keeps extracting information from them, and the story develops into something much more dangerous and complicated (this is where the chocolate comes is ;D). Even me, with my amazing summarising skills can’t go into any more detail of the whole plot! :P
But the ending is very clever, with the whole magazine cover idea. I’m very ignorant, so if they copied that part from some Hollywood flick then please let me know…I’ll instantly change my views!!
And I take this Filmfare on behalf of…
Anil Kapoor – I think he did his role with the style it required. Maybe a little on the downside, but effective nevertheless. His character had subtle romance and a lot of interrogation and anger!
Sushma Reddy – Miniscule role and pretty clothes! Her acting seemed forced, but the dialogue delivery was good.
Irfan Khan – applause This is the first movie I have seen of his, and I think he’s a superb actor. I liked the way showed his need for glasses, and the way he stumbles without them – totally natural acting.
Arshad Warsi – plays the computer-hacking freak Chip. Well, I think it’s a step above from Circuit! I previously said that he is a versatile actor and I still haven’t changed my opinion :)
Emraan Hashmi – I think he was good in this as well. No kissing at all! That’s probably why he may need an extra dose in Aashiq Banaaya Aapne! Actually, he doesn’t even romance with anyone in this movie!
Tanushree Dutta – Everyone leaves her till last, but I can understand why! She was pretty, but a bit rubbishy in the acting department for a newcomer. But maybe it was coz she was playing a slut. And sluts don’t need to be able to act, they just have to be sluts!
To have an opinion or not to…
Overall I think this film was good time-pass. A much better way of spending Friday night than at home watching Arijit singing! The direction could have been better, but I loved all the camera work and shots. The music videos were a BIG disappointment! Especially since the music was so good! I liked the fact that they didnt show London as the usual all fun and frolics city.
As usual, I was in a dilemma as to what rating I should give this movie. You must think I’m screw-loose…disliking a Yash Raj Film and recommending this third-class flick. But I liked this movie. I know it is nothing amazingly great, but there was a plot which held my attention throughout the 3 hours (which is impressive, if your talking about someone as impatient like me)! :P
And lastly please RRC…your comments and ratings mean a lot to me! Chocolate anyone?
