Strange Title, Good Album.

Limp Bizkit - Chocolate Starfish and the Hotdog Flavored Water - Interscope Records

Vocals - Fred Durst

Guitars - Wes Borland, Sam Rivers

Drummer - John Otto

Other - DJ Lethal

Unlike their previous release ’Significant Other’, Limp Bizkit surrounded this album with a fair amount of hype. Not being the most well known band in the world, a lot of critics felt they would need all of the help they could get.

How wrong they were, the group fronted by Fred Durst had scored themselves a worldwide hit. One of the problems I found though was that it was a bit too wild. `Significant Other’ was itself loud and heavy but also had plenty of mellow, quiet parts too. Around 90% of `Starfish’ is very heavy and I’m worried that could put a few people off.

Don’t get me wrong, I do like and enjoy the album. I like the variety between rap and rock although I am not a big lover of Fred Durst’s rapping style. Remember Vanilla Ice, MC Hammer, I thought they were bad rappers too but Fred makes them look very good.

On the track ’Getcha Groove On’ Fred gets help from ’Xzibit’. This makes the track a lot better than I think it would have been with just Fred rapping. I think that now, with their worldwide fame, any future albums would feature a variety of guest artiste.

Although I like this album, I think there are better, similar albums on the market. One of these is `Hybrid Theory’ by Linkin Park. It is similar in a lot of ways but is nowhere near as heavy. Maybe in parts but not as constant. Their mellow side shows lot more too. Don’t take this as a message not to buy this album, far from it, its definetely worth listening to. Even more so if you can get a copy with the bonus cd. It is a joy to hear the band’s cover of `Faith’ an old George Michael hit. It may seem like i’m contradicting myself here but although it is the heaviest song they have made, it is very eye opening.

Overall I recommend this album, you could buy a lot worse.
