We live in Bangalore and have used the Electrolux dishwasher
for over 2 years now.
costs
Availability of detergent has been not too smooth but there
are a bunch of distributors. The consumables do cost a bit
much but last forever even with 1-2 loads a day.
Over this you have the electricity bills.
But we have not lost a single piece of crockery or even
fragile glasses in 2 years - so thats a big saving over
earlier days when we’d lose one or two a month! When you’re
talking of expensive glasses etc its big money saved!!
advantages
hygiene. big factor. No maid can get close to this
convenience. Yes you have to rinse the dishes but then
you often do that even for the maid lest numerous flies
and bugs party around ur kitchen. And if smartly placed
under the kitchen countertop next to the sink - u load
it immediately and ur kitchen never looks dirty. Esp
useful with modular kitchens.
If you have a no-maid policy like we do - its critical.
This way we have more privacy around the house and live
to our own schedules.
brands available
IFB has a couple of models. Electrolux has a good one and
I believe Siemens just launched theirs. We chose the
Electrolux cause its got space, is very quiet and fitted
perfectly under the countertop.
Consumables
You could buy the Calgonit packs from the IFB dealers (not
available off the shelf anymore). You could also source
the cheaper (and somehow more effective) Indian brand from
