So, if you have just bought the Philips PET710, which is quite a decent portable DVD player, except for one problem. I cant view the DVD I got from the US, sometime ago since this piece is factory locked to region 2. For those of you, who have no clue about what I said, heres a short lesson on DVD rules.
The DVD world is divided into six major geographical regions, with two additional regions reserved for specialized use, this means that DVD players and DVDs are labelled for operation within a specific geographical region in the world. So with US being region 1, it would play only on region 1 players. Well we cant have that now can we. So Ive thankfully found a hack to make this player of mine region-free.
Heres how to do it:
First switch the player on and open the tray door.
Then press the SETUP button on the remote control.
Now the setup menu will be shown on the screen.
Next highlight the PREFERENCES and then press the ENTER button.
Press buttons 2, 5, 2, 3, 1, 5, LEFT, DOWN. NowRegion Code: 2 will be displayed on the screen.
Press0 to set the player to region free(or press the related number for the region you want).
Finally Press SETUP to exit.
Now, I know many of you wont own this player, but if you want some easy steps, to set your portable DVD player free, you could visit the DVD hacks section at https://videohelp.com/dvdhacks. And just for the record, I dont condone this.
