Why pay 3 times for a user interface ?

A year back we bought a Pigeon Microwave(20 litres) . It has been giving very good service, we mainly use it for heating stuff. We have not found it that useful for cooking. It cost us about Rs 2900. It has a grill(which we have never used so far)

When we did the search, we found that expensive brands like LG and Samsung were about  three times the cost  for a 20 litre model. The main difference is that the expensive brands come with timers, pretty user interfaces(and ofcourse lot of pushing from the salesman because of the high margins associated). The Pigeon microwave came with a manual interface. The main component(the microwave tube) itself must be sourced from some Chinese manufacturer by all the microwave sellers.

Some brands also include a vessel set and implicitly charge for that(the cost of Rs 1500 is factored in the cost of the microwave although vessels are advertised as free). All that is required is four five microwaveable containers that can be had for less than Rs 500. As for recipe books, there are tons of sites on the Internet providing recipes
