Thirty + or to be more accurate Thirty ++, generation feels the need of the aphrodisiac or the recently introduced Viagra to connect to the Sunrise generation of millennium India. But alas no, U should be able to decipher their lingo to connect. The recently introduced SMS ( Short Message Service ) has left me tearing my hair in despair and I felt the urgent need to call upon my dear friend in the CBI to decode the message. I felt I must go thru a crash course in the cell phone language if I had to mutter sweet nothings to the Babe next door.
Earlier on the Archie brigade talk used to stump me but I mustered all my energy and crammed the essential words to keep up with the Reggies and Veronicas. Stuff like Bucks, cool man , old man , Pad, .... I used to parry it around like a Pro. Then came the abbreviated juggernaut . IMFL ( Indian Made Foreign Liquor ), WYSIWYG ( What You See Is What You Get ), ATM ( Automated Teller Machine ) , GIGO ( Garbage In Garbage Out ) , together with the Hindi movies shortened tittles like HAHK ( Hum Apke Hai Kaun ) KNPH ( Kaho Na Pyar Hai ) DDLJ ( Dilwale Dulanhiya Le Jayega ) were enough to send your head spinning without the use of Coke . It was the in thing to be saying that meet you at CTF ( Chills Thrills and Frills ).
Then came the net and its nettiquettes, the cellphone and the SMS. To send a message across the globe at Re. 1/- per message was inviting but the Gujarati version of SMS was preposterous. Messages like G1 ma 9u shu 6 { Jeevan ma navu shu che – What is new in life.} and Aj a mali a { Aaje malia – Today we shall meet } were Greek and Latin to me till I was enlightened on the subject matter. I felt that if U can make out the meaning of the Guju SM then Greek and Latin would not be Greek and Latin anymore.
