Saves labour without making you idle

A Washing Machine, as the name indicates washes. Washes what? Dishes, Vegetables, Fish, Earthen Pots? Clothes? If a Washing Machine should wash clothes, then it should, in all fairness,  be called  a Clothes Washing Machine. But the Washing Machine manufacturers all over the world have taken the customers for granted. And the customers, on their part, by accepting the nomenclature, seem to have shown their gratitude to the manufacturers for giving them a wonderful * labour saving * device.

However, I have reconciled to write this review on a Washing Machine, which we have been using for the last four years. It is the BS 55 Twin Tub Washing Machine manufactured by * BPL. * Its Instruction Manual on its cover page says’ The best your home can get.’ It works on 230 Volts AC, 50 Hz, and takes 5 amps current. Its net weight is 22.5 kg, and its dimensions are: 758 mm wide, 435 mm in depth and 900 mm high.  It can take 5 kg of clothes. Its tub volume is 39 litres. Its Washer  speed is 275 rotations per minute, and Spinner speed is 1380 rotations per minute, with a power consumption  of 330 Watts and 160 Watts respectively. The Washer Timer  can go for 15 minutes and the Spinner Timer for 5 minutes. These are the maximum time limits. The entire body is made of plastic. It is available in many colours, but we have one of off white colour.  It comes with the necessary accessories.

It is my wife, who uses the Washing Machine. She has perfected her own method of using it, and finds faults with others in the family in their handling of the appliance. She needs hot water to be put in the Washing Machine first, before water is drained into the machine. Then the rest is as per the suggested operation. Our Washing Machine is almost soundless. She washes the delicate materials like silks and woolens separately, and always washes the white and coloured clothes separately.

My younger brother is extra careful in removing the dirt from his shirt collars and cuffs, and never puts them in the machine. My wife does the same thing. Her washing schedules are three to four days a week - almost on every alternate day.

Her advice? Maintain the machine well. It will obey you and give you years of hassle free service.
