Summers have become hotter then ever in India, so much so that the fan which was our companion for ages doesn’t help much, acs are not anymore a luxury but are rapidly becoming a necessity prices being dropped and units being more efficient and silent. People have the tendency of rushing for offers or just relying on a sales person and going in fro heavy discounts some are happy with their purchase some regret it.
Well acs are available in different formats the window acs which are the most common and easily serviceable but very noisy, the split acs which are very silent and attractive and also cools better, the cassette ceiling mounted ac which are good for larger rooms and to avoid ductwork generally they are mostly used in commercial spaces and are expensive, then we have the central ac which requires ductwork and mostly a 3phase power supply. now im writing this review mostly for residential applications so my focus would be on windows and splits.
Choose a window ac if u have a provision for installing one and have no ways to installing a split ro if your a in a rental place cause split acs need 2 be installed by pros and youd pay the normal 1500 or less fro installing it 500-800 for removing it and the additional amount fro the copper pipes which would be 600-800/meter and if your gas gets a bit low then add that windows are easy you coud linstall them yoursefl if u read the manual well or are exeprienced with doing handy work with the help of another person/ get a ac guy 2 do it fro a very cheaper amount. about capacity it largely depends on the location as well as windows windows geting direct sunlight the amount of people occupying the are as well as the brand you choose generally for 100-140 a 1 tonne is used 140-220 a 1.5 is used and 220-310 a 2 tonne it varies though cheapest brands will give u less coverage and the highest costing imports fro 1 tn it covers 129-172 sq ft 1.5 its 172-258 sqft and 2 tonne 258-387 sq ft.
while buying an ac compare acs from different brands like say a brand A is 1 tonne and has a btuh of 12500 but a brand B also 1 tonne has a btuh of 13500 so just dont go in for tonnage check the btuh another thing is the star rating higher stars means higher costs and that wont be of any help for a person who uses the ac for 2 hours a day and not always, on the other hand someone who uses it fro 5-8 /12 hours will surely benefit. next thing is sometime say for example u have ac from brand A which is 5 star rated 2 tonne and another brand B which is also a 5 star 2 tonne but if u look at their btu/h A may have 22000 btuh and B might have 24000 btuh or it cud be A is 5 star rated and B is 4star and B has a better btuh . next thing which is crucial is to know the airflow rate which is generally cfm sum give it as cmh and sum cmm now u should always convert incase 2 brands have different ways of measuring it choose one that has a higher number. then check sound levels in db acs generally rate them at a distance and the lowest fan some give the measurements of all speeds, extra airfilters can be good but mostly its just a marketing gimic and they arent so good as a dedicated air purifier . dimensions need to be checked spend extensive time on researching the brand chosen find out their reputation and service in your area if they are good. and awlays appear to posses more knoweldge in front of a sales man, try not to listen to them they may recommend you a brand and speak highly of it chiefly cause they maybe paid to sell more of that brand. Avoid cheap acs which seem very cheap check their body if its tough. cheaper acs at times use inferior parts and pipes if you can then increase your budget and buy something which can give you years of cooling. all acs are electronic equipments and all electronic equipments can fail or maybe not . even the highest costing imports can fail but it might be at a lesser rate then cheap Chinese ones. every ac provides you with 1 year warrant parts labor and gas dnt pay for gas during the warranty if it leaks but after warranty an amc is better advisable from authorized service cause you still have a 5 year compressor warranty. there are 2 tyeps of amcs 1 which only service are given and visiting charges are nt charged and 1 which parts and gas is included.
