Last Saturday, I received a pirated VCD and tried to play it in my Home PC. But my Sweety(the Home PC) refused to recognize it. So tried to tame her with my available soft weapons but could not do it. I had an old version of Jet Audio in a CD. So installed this application of Cowon System and could see the movie.
Now I have their newer version 4.71, downloaded from https://cowon.com. Size 7.7 MB and takes about 30 minutes to download by down-loader of Opera. Latest version 5 was released on 24th Dec but its too big – 12 MB. So I will better wait for an update of version 4.71.
What is Jet-Audio?
It is a utility for the PC that also entertains you. Jet-Audio features a remarkable audio system with independent A/V components for DSP, Audio CD Player, Digital Audio, MIDI and Digital Video along with a Mixer and a Remote Controller.
Useful Features of version 4.7 – Too many useful features in this Version 4.7 of Jet Audio. It can be divided into 8 components and apart from the main component(at the top) all other can be in hidden mode.
Audio rack components - 6 independent components like Digital Signal Processor, Mixer, Audio-CD, Digital Audio, MIDI, Digital Video components.
DSP - Digital Signal Processor – Can adjust reverb and 3D sound effects with MPEG audio and Digital Video.
Mixer - 100% compatible with Windows 95/98/NT Volume Control
Audio CD Component - Plays Audio CD and can manage album information like album title, composer, song title and other information.
Digital Audio Component can play many formats like wav, .mp3, .ra, .rm and other digital audio files. MIDI Component can play formats like .mid, .rmi, and tracker files(.mod, .s3m, etc.). It has a Built in MPEG Audio engine on the Digital Audio component. Digital Video Component is compatible with formats like .avi, .mov, .mpg, .dat, .rm. There’s a built in MPEG Audio engine on the Digital Audio component
It has a built-in RealAudio and RealVideo engine on the Digital Audio and Digital Video components. It has the capability to real-time encoding to .wav, .ra, and .mp3 format.
It has a Remote Controller - Controls Audio CD, Digital Audio, MIDI, Digital Video Component. However, it is not very useful to me.
It has a spectrum analyzer screen for audio CD’s, MPEG audio, and MIDI
Playback with display Mode and Convenient Panel Display, Automatic resizing for Digital Video Command-line interface is user friendly. It also supports Video CD Interactive mode.
Skin – There are five to choose and I like the original gray one.
There are options to display or hide Sound Effect Component, Mixer Component, Digital Audio Component, MIDI Component, Digital Video Component and Remocon as per your need and choice and all these by a touch of the mouse.
Some Functions of Jet-Audio’s Component
Sound Effect Component - It has various functions such as Spectrum Display, Equalizer, Sound Effect and Spectrum Monitoring.
Mixer Component - It can be changed with Windows Volume control, has all useful functions for Mixer Control internally.
Audio CD Component - Imports Audio CD information from Internet CDDB, has Quick Track Select, Quick Album Select, powerful Album Management functions.
Digital Audio Component - Supports various kinds of files such as MP3, RA and ASF, has various functions such as Quick Track Select, Quick Album Select and Streaming Saving. Besides these, its various kinds of Recording functions are the epiphany of Jet-Audio.
MIDI Component Supports files like MIDI, and KAR(Karaoke MIDI), have Quick Track Select, Quick Album Select, Playback Speed Control and Key Control.
Digital Video Component supports various kinds of moving picture files such as AVI, MPG and MOV.
Important Function Buttons of Main Component
Preferences – One can open’Preferences’ dialog box for setting up Jet-Audio’s Environment as per personal choice. It is always better to read the manual before doing all adjustments.
Multimedia in Control Panel - It opens Multimedia Property dialog box in Windows Control Panel. Nothing very special but you have few choice.
Remocon Bar - To save screen space for other programs, this slim and long remote control bar is useful. By using this Remocon Bar, one can adjust all controls of Jet-Audio. It takes less system space if only Remocon Bar is out in the screen. It is very useful when some one carryout more than one task.
Recording Audio CD(Digital Audio Extraction)
Digital Audio Extraction - One can make Audio CD to MP3 with ease. Not yet tried.
MP3 is the Standard type of Audio Compression and it compresses audio signal keeping original sound quality. MP3 converter can compress CD quality music from 30MB to 3MB and does not take much time and effort. So one can burn hundreds of songs into one 650 MB CD. Digital Audio Extraction seems to be very useful to save space in your hard disc.

Could not find the fault in the format of that pirated VCD. Latest versions of WMP are capable to read almost all formats but may not work if there are minor faults. Friends, you may try Jet Audio(also Video) if all other utilities stop responding. Latest version 5 is loaded with lot of additional features. I think, one should go for the latest one.
