Well I dont really see how a party can be defined a party if there is board game playing involved. Maybe others might see it as a party, but in my case, a party must contain alcohol and music where everyone is having a blast! I see board games as simply a get together and not a party. And this is usually a way to increase conversation as no one has anything to talk about.
Here are some of the Top 3 Board Games I would play at aparty with people:
1) Trivial Pursuit
If the party involves three to four couples then this will be one of the perfect games to play to kill a whole bunch of hours.
Trivial Pursuit is a trivia game with a circular board where you have to move around the board and answer trivia questions to 6 categories. Your goal is to get the 6 corner pieces and then advance to the middle to answer a final question. There are questions from Sports to Entertainments to Politics, etc. You can also buy different versions of Trivial Pursuit which specialize in one category. For example, there is NFL Trivial Pursuit for those rough and tough jocks to play.
2) Scattegories
You do not really need the board game to play this game as you do it on paper. The only difference with playing this game on paper is that youre categories are limited and games can be time consuming.
On Paper
Write down four categories:
ie. Movies, Songs, Countries, Actors, Foods
Draw a letter, then everyone thinks of something that starts with that letter and when they are done, they are to call stop and everyone has to stop and put their pencil down. Receive 10 Points for Original Answers and 5 Points for Similar Answers.
The Board Game
The board game will come with sheets of paper, more complex categories, a buzzer, a letter dice.
The time limit is usually 3 minutes for about 15 categories. This is a great game for simply friends who dont want to be teamed up and want to be crowned the King of the Fast Brain.:P
3) Monopoly
Always has been one of my favorite games of all time. Your goal is to move around the board, collecting and building properties in order to make everyone go bankrupt. You can play up to 6 players which is usually the number of people that can be together at a small gettogether party of friends.
The game can be quite longer than 2 or 3 hours as sometimes, the properties of people are balanced evenly and basically the whole game is played by giving money back and forth. This can somewhat be annoying for the peoplet that have already gone bankrupt and want to try and squeeze in a second game before the night is over.
Overall Thoughts on Games at a Party .
Those 3 games listed above are 3 games that I would bring into a small gettogether with friends. They are fun enjoyable, time consuming and a lot of fun to play. I have never received a complaint from anyone who has played those games at my get togethers. Give each of them a try, your friends will love you to death for introducing them to it!
