With new technology and options coming up everyday, its very essential to work on what you like and what suits you best and which is lucrative at the same time. Previously there were very few options from which one could choose from and if an individual did not fit into a particular category he/she did not know what to do and that individual would have entered a job which would pay well but there would be no satisfaction.
Anyway in order to make the right career choice, you have to be very sure of what you want. You can get an idea when you are in the 12th standard or when you graduate. You have to make a decision then and believe me no career is high or low in status. Whether you are successful in that particular field matters not with what you choose.
You might be a great management consultant and you might be equally successful at baking cakes !!!
It depends on your attitude and aptitude.
First have a check on your aptitude . What do you like doing best? Do you like solving difficult problems? do you like dabbling in art ? do you like sketching ? are you good at handiwork and design ? etc, etc.
In this world no matter what you do, its the survival of the fittest . So you have to have the attitude of a go getter and be good at what you do.Not just good but one of the best !!!
For example, if you are very mathematically inclined you can either opt for engineering or Architecture. Both are lucrative fields. Computer Science is the most popular option for the upcoming engineers who want to make it big in the IT industry. But only being and engineer does not suffice so you have the option to do MBA and get into marketing and management. The growth rate is fast and it is very lucrative if you are in the right job. MCA is another option to get into the IT industry. IT offers various specialised fields. You can opt for a very technical career like coding, etc or a non technical career like marketing, etc.
If you are good at arts you could choose a variety of fields. You could go for designing as in fashion designing, textile designing, ceramics, or take up a fine arts course. These are also very lucrative fields where you can have your own set up and operate independently. Besides that you have lot of other courses which can bring out the creative side in you. You can try Gemology. Its a flourishing industry.
Media is another attractive field where you can experiment and make use of your creative talent. If you have acting talents you could take up a course in an acting school and proceed from there. You should also check out the different fields available in the world of Films. Yes in order to be successful in media, you got to develop contacts and that means you got to have good communication skills... Media involves a lot of other things and if you are lucky you will hit the jackpot... I have friends in media who always had to struggle from the bottom rung of the ladder. Music director, editor, actors, journalists ... everyone has the same story.. hard work, luck and contacts... not in the same order though...
Now for the people who have a mixed talent for both Science and Arts, computers are your field. By computers I dont mean programming. You can join the other departments of the industry. You can become a Web designer, Graphics designer, Multimedia professional, Technical writer, Quality expert, etc. You do need to do the courses along with some projects for these professions which do not take a very long time. That is just the qualification required after your graduation. The rest is upto you how you make use of your creative quotient.
The field of beauty is another field which you can try your hands on. Shenaaz is the best training institute I know which has a complete course in the field of beauty.
The medical profession is always one of the best but it needs lot of dedication. Dedication is required in all the fields but here you need lots of patience and perseverance. The period of studying is very long and if you are willing to take up the challenge, this is the profession for you.
The advantage of this profession is that you will never be at a loss for a job, whatever the situation. You have to like studying and research which are a plus points in this field. The rest will follow as you learn the profession.
Physiotherapy, Speech and hearing Specialisation are fields which you can alternatively try if you dont really want to invest so much time in the medical profession but still medically inclined.
Dentistry is another field, which you young to-be docs can try out. This is a little different from MBBS. Its not a part of medical institution, at least, thats what they say.
BDS is the equivalent for MBBS. You have to enter this field after PUC or 12th standard.
If you are very good with kids and have a flair for teaching you can take up this field. This is a very satisfying job but its not always lucrative. Then again it depends on your choice.Teaching used to be one of the most respected professions. I think it is the case even today.
If you have taken up Home Science as your subject, you can
take up specialisation in Nutrition. This is also very good career.
If you are a good cook, you can always start a catering service or start your own restaurant. Hotel management is a course which is somewhat related to this field. Of course you dont need to be good cook for this but still... Besides cooking you will also learn the tips and tricks of the hotel trade and who knows you can be a very famous hotelier ??
Or you can set up a bakery of your own where you can market your culinary skills and satisfy the appetite of many in one go !!!!
Being in the travel industry is also offers a lot of opportunities. If you know foreign languages you can operate as a tour guide outside India. You could also take up a career as a flight purser or an airhostess. There are many options in this field too.
