CLC Ranchi has been a blessing for the poor. atleast a place for a poor student to afford an LL.B Degree(3 yr) at a time when legal education costs around Rs.20, 000-Rs.100, 000 a year. at CLC it doesnt cross Rs.8000 a year.
this is apart from a long list of legal luminaries graduating from CLC which includes succesful advocates and judges of diff HCs and SC.it has got a brand new sprawling campus at Namkom(on NH-33) inaugurated on 24th Aug2008 by the CJ Jharkhand high court.
now as a student I can also point out the dark side.since the last three years at least,
-there hasnt been any function to welcome the freshers nor farewell to the passouts.not even teachers day. just independence & republic days ceremonies r held with attendance of not more than ten-thirty students at an institution having an intake of around three hundred students annually.
-in the name of sports & games a volleyball team is sent for the inter-college tournament occassionally. the last time this happened in 2006-07. there hasnt been any such event where girls can get involved.
- academics are at the mercy of self styled teachers. there are doubts as to the authority of the principal(prof.-in-charge) even in matter of academics. classes are wound up within 2-3 months on completion of syllabus per semester. for practicals the students are required to attend diff courts and prepare a summary .the students of 2nd year(2006-07) attended a max of four such visits against th requirement of sixteen in the 3rd semester, and the 4 they attended were mere orientation of the civil, labour & consumer courts and a visit to the lok adalat in the high court premises. they copied the summary of cases from the law journals & even from seniors copies, for evaluation. worse in semester 4. syllabus was complete in 2 months and classes were suspended further so that we could prepare for the 4th sem exams.no practical was held!
-we dont know when any students had ever been taken for camps last(legal aid camps), which is a very important part of legal education. but we went for a picnic to the jonha falls this year.
these r some of my heart breaking exp.but inspite of all these there is hope for genuine students.these adversities make u a strong person & make u more determined against all odds.this is why many who have passed out from CLC ranchi since 1954 have reached great heights.
still CLC ranchi has a long history of excellence only due to the sheer efforts of its students.
